I see from a comparison of the earlier and latest versions of the OF1400 manual that the collet nuts have been modified. Here is a picture of the old and new 1/2" items:[attachimg=1]
The 22mm hex is now a 24mm square, a flange has been added at the base and the entry hole for the bit is now reduced so that the end of the collet is no longer visible.
These collets are seemingly not to the ER standard and may be special to Festool who claim that they are dust proof.
Does anyone know the thinking behind these changes?
The square-for-hex seems a strange change; the other changes may perhaps be to enhance dust resistance. I assume that the move to a 24mm wrench does not imply a greater tightening torque (the manual is silent on this).
Incidentally, in searching the site for answers I was interested to see the references to the Musclechuck and wonder whether members have experience of this; it is not clear how the design would have natural balance although I note the procedure for improving this.
