Mouldings/Moldings on the MFT

This past weekend I replaced the flooring my basement suite using the TS-55 and MFT along with my Bosch jigsaw for custom cuts

Cause I was already setup with the MFT I thought it would be nice to avoid the miter saw and its lack of Dust collection in favour of the TS-55/MFT combo when it came to mouldings.

Has anybody been successful cutting mouldings with the TS saws with or without the MFT?

Any tips or tricks you can pass along would be helpful

Thanks

Dan, I think the miter saw is the way to go for the best results. IMO the the angle unit on the MFT really isn't up to the job.

Of course a good compound miter saw would be the saw of choice.

Unless you are doing cove moldings, the TS55 and MFT will work too, but not as efficiently.  If the weather is good, I usually set up my old Makita outside.  However, I did a job recently and used the TS55, MFT and CT22 vac unit right in the house.

I just used a short guide rail, marked the moldings (which were flat) with a bevel square and cut on the mark.  I always cut slightly long, then trim to fit.  For sure it saved a lot of walking.

My personal problem is after carrying a piece outside to make a cut I tend to lose my orientation and have to go back inside to recheck my mark or measurement.  With everything right at the site, I am more comfortable.  With the Festool stuff there is essentially no mess.  So I'm not convinced that either method is more efficient.

Hi Seth,

Don't laugh. Wondering if maybe the KAPEX had been approved by our safety board I called Hafele and asked if they sold the Festool KAPEX. The guy said "what is that" and I told him it was a fancy German Miter saw made by Festool and going to be sold in the US early next year. His response was "Never heard of it so I am sure we don't have it"

Will they ever have it? He doesn't know, nor does he care and certainly didn't seem interested in doing a bit of background work.

On another note, they have never returned my price request on the Domino, MFT, Rotex or CT-22. Not one phone or e-mail back.
