When you say it makes a huge difference in the sander, do you mean in sanding speed/efficiency, handling of sander, quality of finish, or in longevity of the sanding discs? Or all situations?
The difference for me was total dust pick up using a Rotex 150 taking off huge amounts of material in rotary mode on edges of round discs. Where 1/2 the sander is off the edge of the disc or any other stock.
With the older set up there was much more dust left around the edge of the disc. Now there is less than 1/2 the amount of dust left around the edge of the discs.
I don't think anyone will see a difference in finish sanding unless they are sanding an edge. There just is not enough dust produced to where the old set up didn't get it all anyhow. The old hole layout already sucked up 100% of the dust unless I was edge sanding.
In other words if you are are not sanding in a way to max out the old hole layout you wont see a difference. The way I take off loads of dust on the edges of stock(always using the hard pad) I noticed a difference immediately.
It helped so much I bought a long reach hole punch so all my thousands of old discs are easily changed over to the new layout.
