Guys, i work with timmy and i didn't even get it that cheap! talk about a steal.

Whats ther "real" difference between the new MM and the older model? From what I can see is some kind of quick release lever on the top of the casing. Anything else "really" worth the extra hundred? Woodcraft is offering a 10% discount on the newer model right now.

The new model has a more powerful motor in addition to the tool-less blade change mechanism. It's not like comparing an old sawzall or jigsaw blade change with a new one. The new MM blade change mechanism requires a bit of muscle to operate. Not enough innovation for me to upgrade my "old" model.

new one has a new case too!  ;D Doesn't lock onto a systainer >:(

That is an interesting piece of marketing there.  The MAP (Minimum advertised Pricing) is always below the MSR price.  So be careful what you are looking at when you consider the 10% off right now.  Everybody on the net is selling the new MM for about the same.  $399 ish.

In Germany (though not here in the UK :( ) you can buy the multimasters in festool systainers

I've looked into this a bit more, and the multimasters in systainers seem to be a 're-boxing' by some resellers rather than an official Fien product. Looks like they use the systainer insert for the Deltex DX93. For anyone who's interested, the part number for a Sys1 with the insert is 487578.

I used the diced foam inserts to house my MM in a SYS3, along with all it's accessories.

The nice thing about the quick release on the new model multimaster is this. I use mine to plunge cut and undercut mostly while laying or repairing floors. Plunge cutting into old oak or hickory can put the saw and the blades through some serious work. This also causes me to go through washers that fasten the blades to the old model. I have bought more washers and screws so that my blades would stay in place than i ever wanted to buy.

The new quick release seems to hold the blades in place much better than the old model: At least for what i use my saw for anyway. Also the new model has a dust extraction attachment that comes with the saw, although i have never honestly used it. If you all need some pics of it give me shout. All in all I don't see the need to switch over at this point, but I could see it in the future when prices start to drop.

Dust extraction on the new one works well, just make sure to use the pad with holes if you're sanding. Don't ask how I know.....

let me guess, you fogged yourself out of the room before realizing oh yeah, thats what the holes are for!  :) I myself know the feeling :-\

Actually, the CT22 is so bitchin', it picked up most of the dust from outside the dust shroud. I noticed a fine haze of dust in the room, and of course I had it all over my shirt front. It was plaster too!
