Hello Foggers
Just wanted to report that after having my 1st Kapex go up in smoke doing a crown install after 5+- yrs., I purchased a 2nd one in Nov '15(so I could continue working ) and that one went up in smoke yesterday mid crown installation ( 1.5 yrs old).... Very DISSAPOINTING!!
Now I will have to revert back to using the first one, which had been residing in the shop (after $600 in repairs, and never quite the same in operation), while I go thru the hassle of boxing/shipping of a 2nd burned out saw. Thankfully still under warranty but C'MON!!! WHEN will Festool remedy this awful situation?? Love my wide assortment of reliable Festool items ($15,000 spent so far), but what am I to think? and what should I tell others about the Kapex?
Good luck

[member=2330]morts10n[/member] the KAPEX will be a lot better when they convert the measures to imperial !! [huh] [blink] [wink]

That's not a good track record for the saw. NA seems to be bearing the brunt on the KAPEX failures and after the big explosion on KAPEX failures a while back and all of the hype about collecting usage and failure patterns we've heard absolutely nothing.

I think there's something going on that involves an ostrich and a lot of sand [sad]

Are you still dedicated to the saw in terms of functionality outside of the reliability issue or has this tainted you to the point of buying another brand?

Hey Kev,

I'm a huge fan of the saw. I've used many different ones in my career, and this one worked the best for me.
I guess I'll have to see what Festool does in the near future. That's how I'll decide whether to purchase another, or to move on

Sorry to hear the bad news...I cringe every time I hear something like this because I put myself in your position and imagine going downstairs and firing up my own Kapex only to have it go up in smoke.

I kind of get having issues while cutting wide 2x material or 4x material or 2" brazilian cherry or aluminum extrusions or steel...but crown molding? Really? What's the next too difficult to cut material...1/8" ply?

I think Festool should spend less time & resources creating imperial scales for routers and track saws and more time on fixing Kapex problems.
