Some of you may have noticed I have been offline for some time.

I had open heart surgery five weeks ago and just now feel good enough to make this post.

As a child, I had Rheumatic Fever and decades later it caused my Mitral valve to stop working properly.

My surgeon replaced it with a bioprosthetic tissue valve and also did a triple bypass while he was under the hood.

They did it at Baylor St. Luke’s Texas Heart Institute so I was in very good hands.

Nevertheless, there were some complications so my recovery has been a lot harder than expected.

I hope to be back to making sawdust in another month or so.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Joe

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger...I had my mitral valve replaced back in 1995.  At the time, for my youngish age (37), a mechanical valve was recommended because it will typically last a lifetime.  Mechanical in this case means a stainless steel ring with two, one direction pyrolytic carbon leaflets forming a type of shutter.  The downside is that I have take a blood thinner.
Due to my young age, the heart surgery was easy.  Only my sternum ached.

March of this year, I had my right hip replaced with a titanium and ceramic implant.  The hip surgery was very easy and close to pain free.

Get well soon!

I wish you the best and hope you recover soon, Joe. You'll be back making dust on no time.

Hi Joe, glad you are now fixed up and on the mend. My wife works in a well known heart hospital, here in the UK, and I am constantly surprised at what the docs can do nowadays, the pioneering is incredible.

Rest now and recuperate at your own speed, good luck to you.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. But go at your own pace, don’t rush it.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ron
