My attempt at a Custom Barn Door...

My wife wants a "barn door" to cover the opening to our walk in closet.  But she doesn't want it to look like it belongs on a barn.  So we settled on a craftsman style 3 panel door.

Rails and Styles are made out of pine, panels are 1/2" birch ply.
Used dominoes for the joints.
Primed with Zinser BIN shellac based primer
Paint is General Finishes Milk Paint (Color is linen).

I'm not at H&K's level, but he has a lot more practice (and does really impressive work!).

It has been a learning experience and things are shaping up nicely.

Hardware will be delivered tomorrow.  I think I'll add one more coat of paint on the front side, and then I'll paint the back.

Probably be done in a couple of weeks.

I have a 4 stage sprayer I use. I’m far from a pro at spraying but it turns out much nicer than a brush or roller.

I’ve been using the Graco Ultra Airless handheld sprayer. Leaves an awesome finish for me using Benjamin Moore Advance.

Thanks for that note. I have a  Binks 2000 HVLP that I haven't fired up in 10 years because it's so darn messy as far as clean up goes. I also have a pressure pot for it but that becomes even more of a nuisance. So in the last 10 years I've been brushing and foaming on finishes to avoid the clean up mess with the spray equipment. The Graco gun may be the solution that fits my needs.

I'm not painting cars...I'm painting wood, one small piece at time.

Finished this project this weekend.  Attached the hardware, trimmed it, and hung it up.  Here is the finished result.

Really nice job Neal, I have also been inspired by TXFIVEO' s other posts but can't do much about it until we get other work done and the workshop built. In the mean time we have to put up with some 1970's style sliding doors that were installed by a tries hard but failed home improvement enthusiast [big grin]

We found this hardware for the rail at the big orange box store.  I can't really say that I can make a suggestion on what to buy.  This kit rolls smoothly, very smoothly.

It didn't include the handle or the thing you mount to the floor to keep it from swinging out.  We found those on the big online jungle retailer.
