Made out of Yellowheart and Jatoba with Purpleheart and Yellowheart Inlays let me know where I could improve on my skills
Ken Nagrod said:I agree with Peter, although I wouldn't have picked the correct or appropriate word that he did, so thanks Peter.
Just curious, but did you edge joint the yellowheart boards prior to assembly?
Ken Nagrod said:Your assembly shortcoming turned into a nice accent from what I can see. By the way, is that a dent in the front strip, possibly from swiveling chair? I've done that before [embarassed].
No sadly that dent is from chamfering the edge with my router, it hit a knot or something almost knocked the router out of my hands

That's the kind of thing that would happen to me when I stepped on the router's power cord. Now I have the CT22 with the boom arm.

I like the style of your desk [thumbs up], I wish my first desk looked this way.
But I do have some question: did you let the grain of the wooden inlay match the
grain of the yellowheart? And what are you going to do with the spaghetti of wires?
Thanks for sharing your project [big grin]!

If it was me I would of add a half hight back to it to hide the wires.
I got some free time on Monday Tuesday due to the weather! So ill be working on MY first computer desk I did the thing is I started it 3 years ago! Just never got round to finishing it! I kinda rushed it when I first started it! Monday ill be removing some of the things I dont like about it and adding some stuff to improve it and then make the doors for it!I was less experienced 3 years ago Ill post some pictures of it. I have to make sure I finish is as I am ordering my new PC monday
I thought about the direction of the inlay grain, but not until I was already done with them. Next time I will make sure they go the right direction. As for the wires they are all gone now just 1 for my Mac the printers and routers are wireless in a different room.Rene89 said:[welcome] To the forum!

that looks awsome! i am working on a router table base right now and i am going to make it much more detailed than my desk as far as inlays go. the cabinet is Jatoba box with a Hickory face and hickory and Paduk drawer front. im using push open slidesPeter Halle said:Not meaning to hijack the thread - I love dots and inlays. Legs seem to give me alot of trouble, although i am very happy with this one. but i do find on many other projects i am having a hard time figuring out how to mount legs to my project and still keep the look i want, do you know of a dvd or book all about legs? is there such a book i wonder?Jesse Cloud said:Great desk WCW!
I love the inlays .
The chamfer makes the transition from the long grain to end grain at the end look really great.
Only suggestion I would have is that the 'leg' seems bulky compared to the overall light and whimsical flavor of the rest of the piece. Whimsically curved/shaped legs could lighten the piece up some.
The router taking a jump concerns me though. Could you have been moving the router in the wrong direction (a climb cut)? The router manual should show examples of which way to run it in different circumstances.
Thanks for sharing!
