I've just managed to get the time to convert the garage after renovating the house and after putting in a cement floor, insulating and boarding etc I have made my first item for the workshop.

I have wanted to make the 'new yankee hutch' for a long time but with limited space i have had to wait till now.

I was quite challenging but a grey first project and nice to be finally getting organised

I used 99% festool items, mainly the ts55 with the mft3 table. I cheated a bit by using pocket holes rather than dovetails for the drawers. only my preference.

The only modification i may make is to remove the large middle drawer and replace it with 2 smaller ones for more hand tools.

p.s norm made this look very easy!

Hi Adrian

That's a great addition to your shop.  Nicely done!

I started watching Norm while in high school, which was right when  This Old House started on TV (I think it was 1979 or 1980).  I wanted to be like Norm and he is the single biggest reason why I ended up in the trades.  I can remember saying to my parents "I want to be like Norm".  I still have the book I bought in the early 80's, which covered the project they did for the first series on TV.  I think it was the second project they did, but the first to get filmed.

It's more than 30 years later, and I still want to be like Norm.

Hi Rob & Neil,

Thanks for the positive replies, i was a bit worried as some of the project on here are way above my levels!

I really enjoy the new yankee workshop, he single handedly must keep the wood working industry going!

my only gripe is he makes everything look so easy!

making some baby gates now and then to modify my mfg/3 table as too low and add storage to it & make a small mitre station

all the best
