To look at a small box like this, one may think "I could make that" In this elongated post (Might as well go grab a snack and a drink) I will explain, not only how to build a box like this, but also mistakes that were made along the way and how they were overcome. In addition I will list the numerous tools it took to build this lil "Box". I tried unsuccessfully to move everything from my gallery to here so To see this build in its entirety and step by step instructions on how to build this, please go to my gallery and you can read it and enjoy the pics from beginning to end. here's the linkhttp://www.festoolownersgroup.com/CoppermineMain/thumbnails.php?album=111 Thank you for your time.

Bill,

This is awesome. Thanks for all the effort to go through all the pictures in the gallery and tag them all with descriptions. Really nice work.

Would love to see more of the wooden hinges. I believe you got up hogging out extra material before the blow out. I am guessing you cut the two rounded off sides off the board, box joint them at the router table then pin them with something?

Thanks again for the effort. Your descriptions take a lot of myth out of building something so very fancy.

Superb work!

Brock

Thanks. To make the hinge I use the incra hingecrafter. It basically holds the hinge in place and gives you a pilot hole to drill on center. I'll add more pics on that this weekend. I think I need to add it to the tool list too. :)

Bill,
Thanks for all the hard work!  I appreciate the effort, and I know how much goes into something like this.

By the way, if people want to see all the photos Bill has recently uploaded to the gallery, click here.

Pretty impressive!

Thanks Mathew. This one fought me all the way. The last one went smooth as silk. Must be the fact that this one was for me. Now I'm  on to the jewelry box for my wife. I'll keep you guys updated. ;D

A little update. The Humidor is holding the humidity at a perfect 76%. Because it's the Monsoon season here my Cedar was already holding a higher amount of humidity so as soon as it was done it was ready to use. Better lucky than good sometimes. ;)

A little issue came up. An unnamed person accidentally grabbed the lid and forced it down and it broke loose the hinges. this was actually a good lesson. I modified the stop you see on the right by the hinges. i made it hold the lid up. In the future I'll do it so the lid goes back farther so I don't have to make it latch. This way if someone tries to close the lid it won't break loose the hinges. Fortunately just the glue came loose, the hinges survived. :o

In order to better qualify this project for the contest, could someone help me move my gallery to this post somehow? Thanks.
I figured out how to move the pics but the script doesn't go with it.

The Gallery feature is a powerful way to create great posts.  At first, it might appear difficult to use it for posts, but it really is simpler than it looks!  Essentially, it amounts to uploading photos to your album (which I see you have done), then inserting those photos into your forum posts where you need them by using the "Insert Image" button.

You just need to make sure the "insert image" address is correct.  Generally, you right-click with your mouse, then copy the address.  Again, it's easier than it seems.  After you do it once or twice, you'll be a pro!  Find out exactly how, click here.

I created a special section in the forum just for Gallery questions and information.  You can find it by clicking here.

Let me know if you still have questions after looking over the information in that board.

Hi Matthew, what I'm trying to do is move the gallery to my post here. I was PMd by a judge a couple months ago and was told I would have had a better chance if my pics were included in my post instead of being in my gallery. I'm just trying to do all I can to be compete with all the other great projects here.

You don't have to move the photos from the Gallery.  That's the advantage of the Gallery.  Once you upload your photos there, you can link to them in your forum posts.

Yes, people can use the Gallery to browse your photos.  Bven more importantly, the Gallery is meant to be an easy way for you to get multiple use from your photos.  You only have to upload photos once to the server and then you can link to them as often as you want in the forum.  That saves server space!  (It uses up more server space when people re-post the same photo in more than one place.)

So, you did the right thing uploading your photos to the Gallery.  Now you just need to use them!

Does that make sense?
