After reading about Kapex issues I finally had one today. I took it off of the passenger seat of the van, set it up and made four cuts. Went to lock it down to put it back in the van and the head was stuck in the up position. I looked at all the stuff around the blade and the guards and everything looked normal. No matter what i did with the trigger and the safety and it was locked up. Well I guess it was time to take apart my 8 year old Kapex.
Put it back on the passenger seat of the van, took it home and pissed off my wife by putting it on the kitchen island for service. I was worried that with the head locked in the up position and the guard not retractable I wouldn't be able to get the blade out. Wiggled and wiggled stuff after partially disassembling and got stuff apart.
Blade went into the sink as well as the clear guard for cleaning. Still couldn't get the head to come down even with all the "stuff removed. Not happy.
OOPS. I guess that I should have looked at the locking pin that holds the head in the down position. If that is pushed in accidentally when the head is up it will lock you out.
At least I now have a clean Kapex and blade now. I offer this because I have been a Kapex user since 2010 and have never had this happen. Who knows, perhaps it could happen to you. Check it out and don't make the same assumption I did. I share stupid things I do so that hopefully others won't have to.
Situation Cured.
