My Kapex got cracked, not covered

I only clamp the one end, not the offcut (I agree, that would not be safe). They reduced the charge to $165 USD total which I accepted.

Glad to hear you got a little relief on it.  They didn't have to do that.  I know....it still stings.

As soon as I get it back I'm going to make a zero clearance rear fence like in the suplamenrary manual and maybe that might catch something in the future although it might just go over top.
@scoFF
I made a zero clearance fence myself out of 1/2 inch Plywood.
I can tell you that the hold down cannot be lowered now.
You have to choose one or the other.

Maybe it works if you use 1/4 inch ply??

Good to know before I made one, that sucks.  I like the hold down and was thinking of getting a second for that other side.

Used 6mm MDF on mine and then the clamp works fine.

I just got my Kapex back from a similar incident. Festool Canada replaced the outer housing which had minor damage (I had it glued back together), neglected to repair the inner shroud which was also damaged (a retaining tab had snapped) which I realized when it dropped over the dust port and left a screw hanging out the side of  the housing.  [blink]
For that they dinged me $244 Canadian. Now I learn I should of haggled with them? I thought the point of buying Festool was the service....

For what it's worth, maybe it was my presentation.  I really thought something like regular kickback from a 2x4 was considered normal usage and the saw main body should be able to take that.  If it were a plastic dust shroud or clear plastic like a tablesaw blade cover that cracked from kickback I would accept that breaking but this was the main part of the saw.  Should that be made with something more rugged?  That area be metal?
I complained a bit being surprised it wasn't covered under my 3 year warranty.  I thought everything was covered, not limited warranty like Roybi or something.  They said they would reduce it by removing the labor and shipping (shipping I thought was covered to and from, I guess that's only when it's "covered"?).
Not sure how yours happened, kickback or something else?
I also told them I'm a hobbiest that spent the money on a Kapex when I really couldn't afford it and was surprised it broke and I'd have to pay more money to repair an under warranty item when I thought I was good as gold.  Which was all true.  I rarely even use it.

I'm just afraid that the saw I spend money I didn't have that would last my a lifetime will not.  Really afraid.  Any why is my ETS 150 sqeaking and feeling like there's rubbing on the rotating pad?

I think in your case it was an acceptable solution for you.  Seems reasonable to me that they did that at least.

I had the same thing happen to mine and it also bent the motor shaft, they repaired mine under warranty
I must have owned 10-15 mitre saws over the years and used many more and never known one to kick back like the kapex

I was also under the false illusion from the headline all service included that they covered for any problem not just the standard guarantee that most manufacturers cover.

Couple of things to note for those having kickback issues, (assuming proper use of the saw)

Since the Kapex maximizes the useful cut of the blade, settings on the saw are fairly critical.
Might need to check the setting referenced in the following link.
http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/kapex-'depth-of-cut'-adjustment/

Also make sure that the depth limit adjustment knob is not engaged, preventing the blade from plunging full depth.

I've also owned and used a multitude of this class of saw over the years and don't find kickback issues to be any more evident with the Kapex than the others, in fact the worst kickback I've had was with a non sliding miter saw.... still can't figure out what happened but it was bad enough to bend a tooth on a high dollar blade while cutting 1x cedar trim board (timber)
