My Racktainer arrived today

I am going to keep the Racktainer clipped under my Systoolbox.  Here is photo:

I gave the racktainer a good test by placing a few objects in the drawers then vigorously shacking, inverting, and rotating it.  Nothing came loose.  [smile]

Now I need to figure out what to place in the many compartments:

Nice. Went to order racktainer from woodcraft today but they said its not available yet, even though their website shows it. Never used lee valley before but I think I'm gonna give them a try. Where'd you get yours?

I got mine at Lee Valley (of course  [big grin]).

I didn't know that there were any woodworkers left in Canada or the USA who had not purchased something from Lee Valley.  You are in for a good experience.

Who needs fishing tackle when your cabin is up there in the Canadian wilderness where one can throw anything in the water and catch fish on every cast? At least that is what most of us Americans think.  ;D

Very true. It's a good thing Lee Valley puts out separate gardening and tool catalogs 'cuzz my wife and I would be fighting over who gets to read first. They set the standard in every way.

Greg, you aren’t far from the truth in the case of pike in Lake Pivabiska, they will bite at almost anything.

Most of the time we fish by trolling in a rowboat using a simple line wound around a home made stick with a red devil lure attached to the end of the line.

The photo that was attached to the first post in this thread shows the compartments in one of the trays.  The supplied compartments are the same in all four drawers.  They can be moved around and rearranged.

The Racktainer that I bought has two trays / boxes with 15 compartments, and two with 17 compartments.  Some are the same in all four and some are different. All modular of course.

I could not find  anywhere in the USA to buy the other available  compartment sizes.  But I was able to get them by having a UK connection send them to me.

Thanks for the link Seth.  There are some sizes there that I don't have and would find to be of use, in particular the 107mm x 159mm size.  I was planning to make a couple of those, now I will see if Lee Valley might be able to get them for me.

I asked Lee Valley if they could get more inserts and was told "No". If you hear otherwise please let me know.

Seth, upon closer inspection, I see that the company that provides those inserts is named Raaco, not Tanos.  Perhaps Tanos does not make all the sizes that we see at the site you pointed to.

The rack boxes and inserts are all made by Raaco for Tanos.  The boxes that hold the inserts are called "service cases" under the Raaco name and are exactly the same except for the color. IN other words if you buy  a Raaco Service Case it will slide into the Racktainer.

There are half height inserts available with four types of small divisions. These can be double stacked in the service cases.

There are two types of service case lids. The one that comes with the Racktainer has modular ribs to help keep inserts in place and things from migrating. The other has no ribs and works better with the double stacked inserts  since the small divisions cross the rib locations.

As far as I have been able to find ... there are no true Raaco dealers in the US.
There might be a couple places in the USA that sell a very limited range of individual products, but no separate inserts.

So Seth and Frank, now that you have been using your racktainers for a while how do they fair?

I'm wondering should I add one of those to my pile of Sortainers and Sys-1 Sorts and still on the fence whether to rather get four more Sys-1 Sorts or one of these racktainers for my pocket hole screws and machine screws and nuts...

How would you see the pro and cons between the three different storage options (Sortainer/Racktainer/Sys-1 Sort's)?
