Hello. Second topic for me, after bits box for OF1400 systainer.

Here are tools I want to store in a systainer:

[attachimg=1]

Wether more than 50 tools.

With these parameters:

- have direct access for majority of tools. Just have to extract one or two other tools before access to coveted tools, for limited number of tools,

- don't have to extract the insert to access to tools, that is not very comfortable on site, so exclude drawers for storage at low of the insert,

- use as possible space under the hinge renfort, that exactly limit size of the insert if it has to be extract regularly to access to tools.

My solution tomorrow. Night is in progress here in France. And I try to maintain suspense...

Have a good nignt.

It seems to me that you're working on the contemporary version of the Studley Tool Chest!  Curious to see your solution...

Hello Chris.

Yes, Studley wall chest, it's a reference.

Tony Konovaloff's one was mine for a long time too. I started to build one like this, but too heavy, too cumbersome. Now, he is a toys chest for kids.

Here is my reflection.

I was looking for a sys4, like most of hand tools systainer I saw. I finally had a good deal for a second hand sys5, then I used it for my hand tools.

To store with easy access mean store vertically. It's not a wonderfull discovery...

Sys5 allows to store my long rapes, it would not be possible in a sys 4.

But my long backsaw is too long to store vertically. I could have cut her, but my Roberts & Lee saws are too precious for me...

Secondly, prioritize access to tools, depending upon of their uses.

Chisel, hand plane, hammer, squares... in first priority.

Blue marker line, glue pot, trusquin, plumb-line... in second priority.

For example, I note that when I use trusquin, square is usually already on the bench. Then, I designed my tools location from my habits of work.

Part of my tools have little size. Then, I have to superimpose them in the systainer. I find the solution with a vertical lift-out lid.

My systainer combine an insert and a lid, to solve the important high of the systainer5.

One pic today? OK, here is the first.

OK, it's not the more demonstrative pic...

Here is for my so precious saws, my too long precious saw... The stand is design in way his structure take place under the hinge reinforcement of the sys.

Then, the insert, built around the clamps storage. The carton tube is for the plumb-line cord.

For compass and pencils, a recycled cigar box.

I don't have the pic, but I do a intermediate tray with hard paper, to store under it the compass in his plastic original case that suit perfectly in the box (a chance!!!), and to place pencils on it.

And here is the lid, on this pic of the different parts of my storage solution.

Little carton tubes are for the blades of my bow saw.

I have to organize the back of the systainer lid to store notebook and to make a better place to the calculator.

Nicely done - thanks for the decomposed photos showing the process and what goes where.  Kind of a jig saw puzzle (pun intended) for the job site!

Wow, good job! I made my own hand tool insert as well, and carrying less than half of yours it is already heavy enough. :)

I love seeing how different people have different sets of tools based on their needs, and as a result how they put them together based on space, ease of immediate access, and the innovative ways in which they work - diagonals, magnets, etc. For me the hardest thing was trying to conceptualise the the final form before cutting the plywood, and needing to adapt "on the fly" as each tool/section took its place.

I am more a DIY and home handyman so mine is holding:

Basic Tools:
- 10 Standard Screwdrivers (PH1, PH2, PH3, PH4, PH3 Stubby. Slotted 1, Slotted 2, Slotted 3, Slotted 4, Slotted 3 Stubby)
- Micro Screwdriver Set
- 4 Pliers (Long Nose, Standard, Side Cutters, Adjustable)
- Hammer
- File
- Hacksaw

Measuring, Marking, & Cuttting
- Box Cutter
- Scissors
- Combination Square
- Metal Ruler
- Kreg Multi Mark
- Tape Measure
- Pencils & Eraser, Markers
- Studfinder
- Small Spirit Level

Occasional Use
- Small roll duct tape
- Allen Keys (SAE & Metric)
- Assorted Screws Set in plastic box

Safety
- Eye Protection
- Hearing Protection
- Gloves

I still have quite a bit of space, which I want to put in:
- Adjustable Wrench
- Fold-up Chisel

I have also inset some magnets to hold the square and ruler.

Hello eddomak. You did a good job too.

You mix mechanic and wood tools, that suit to your works, I think.

I tested my hand tools sys this week-end. That's priceless pleasure and comfort to have directly access to the sought tool.

I thought FOGgers were more curious and looking for specific solutions...

Just to help those of them, here is what I find for my toolbox, that isn't perhaps directly visibles :

- the clamps box whithout the fourth side, closed by the lid,

- the tube for the plumb-line cord,

- the lateral support of the handplane maintains the pencil box closed,

- the square supported by the false square releases the required space to grasp her by a finger,

- the trusquin 's place is suitable to the complicated systainer side,

- The 2 trays, top of the insert, and tray of the lid, overlap of the required width to permit tools location on the border of them, whitout loosing space due to the proximity of the edge.
