My Version of Lathe Stand with Storage

I had purchased a Delta Mini Lathe a number of years ago.  Shortly thereafter, I purchased the Delta Lathe stand, which is essentially two upright metal posts, each having a T-shaped bottom with wheels at each end.  Before too long, the whole thing became quite wobbly, as the metal used for the portion to which the wheels were attached was entirely too flimsy.  Also, the "open" nature of that design meant that chips went everywhere, and that there was zero storage available.  I recently saw a design for a lathe stand with storage on  FixThisBuildThat.com.  As I still had LOTS of scrap plywood and MDF, along with some leftover pieces of maple  in my shop (even after making the Folding MFT-style Bench with Router Table that I posted on here), I decided to make a somewhat modified version of the Lathe Stand.  Here is the result:

Wow, that's a lot of storage right at your fingertips!  Nice job on transforming some scraps into something really useful.  What size casters are those?

Thanks for sharing!  Mike A.

[member=30413]mike_aa[/member].... Some time ago Harbor Freight was having a sale on 3" locking casters.  They were so inexpensive, relative to others, that I think I bought all they had (20, or so).  I have been using them on various projects.

Great work
I had a similar issue with my Rikon mini, where the wobble was even worse because I had the extension (making the whole usable length 36 in). I ended up building a rock solid stand -- but I'm curious. I had thought of building something more akin to yours with storage and mobility. I'd it still wobble free, even on casterst? Have you tried yet turning wide blanks that max out the swing, which tend to accentuate wobble?

[member=37411]ear3[/member]... Thank you for the comment.  So far, I know that this stand is SIGNIFICANTLY more stable than the original Delta stand.  As the castors are all locking castors, I hope that they will keep everything in place when I'm using the lathe, which I use, primarily for turning small items, like pens.  Also, it has a lot of storage space that was sorely needed for my turning tools, polishes, blanks, pen (and other) kits, as well as related items.  I am considering designing a chip collector to go behind the lathe and be attached directly to one of the dust collectors / shop vacs in my shop, as another problem with the "open" Delta stand was that chips went everywhere.  After becoming spoiled by the Festool vacuums, I do not like having chips/dust flying everywhere in the shop when I use the lathe.
