Made a start on my kapex sys drawer workbench.

I spent ages trying to figure out layouts and sizes etc and in the end I just worked out a good height based mainly on a sys 2 and got cutting!

Still to do/ figure out:
Workbench tops maybe in a Paulk style with mitre fence, stops etc.
Cabinet for vac?
Leave kapex on stand or take off and sit on cabinet? (Kapex doesn't leave workshop often)
Plinth.

Let me know your thoughts.

Jimmy

I've been designing mine for years, so don't feel too bad!  [wink]

I assume that's Valchromat you're using due to the through-colour? Expensive material choice for a KAPEX station!!  [blink]

As you seem to have "underneath" sorted, some things I've considered (mostly due to my limited space);
  • KAPEX on side-hinged frame with gas struts so it can be "swung down" out of the way (seehttp://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-jigs-tool-enhancements/'marxing-mftm-multifunktionstisch-bausatz-mit-anwendungsbeispielen'-it's-and-mft/msg339696/#msg339696)
  • And associated with the above, a hinged from the rear "hood" that incorporates extraction when raised to rear, but folds down when the KAPEX is out of the way to provide a worksurface (seehttp://lumberjocks.com/replies/559815 to get an idea of what I'm trying to convey!)
  • Copious use of T-Track in side worksurfaces to position auxiliary fences, jigs, and to clamp workpieces etc.
  • 20mm holes on 96mm centres in all adjoining worksurfaces; fences aligned to hole layout for easy on/easy off using rail dogs
  • Custom-cut pieces around the KAPEX to provide the best material support whilst still allowing full use of saw (tilt, bevel etc.)
  • CT Midi in cupboard (or underneath KAPEX if not hinging) with adequate ventilation to rear; extraction Y-piece to provide connection to the saw, but also under and to the rear of the KAPEX to improve overall dust collection

I like the looks of it, very distinguished.
But I think it's simple made of black MDF.

I would use drawers all the way.
Moving three systainers staked on each other is not that easy.

Thanks for you input.

Its not Valchromat as that would be a bit on the expensive side! This is solid core black MDF which is a little more expensive that standard MDF, but thought it would be fun to use for this!

That first link is to a workstation is very impressive! I have the space to play with so luckily I don't have to worry about turning it into a multi work station.

I like that idea of using some new side wing extensions with dog holes and t track for fence stops etc, and I think this will be the next step  [smile]

Thanks, I love the black against the festool colours.

Yes I add drawers all the way when I have some money to buy some more!  [tongue]

Nice job, looking good.

Its posts like this that are what the FOG was all about years ago. Now all we seem to hear are people moaning about sanders that they've paid next to nothing for lol

keep up the good work we need more posts like this  [big grin]

Cheers mate.

Hoping to get some tops made in the next few weeks that's once I have wrapped up a few paid jobs of course!

Many more pics to come  [smile]

Just a little update for this thread.

Not much has changed on my kapex workbench (hopefully soon)!

I made my take on a Paulk style workbench which I am really happy with and is something I have been meaning to build for ages. I made a start on some 20mm holes but ran out of time  [sad] . I will add more in a few weeks.

And this is the start of my edging banding station.

How are you indexing the lr32?

The first row of holes I just put in what looked about right from the edge then added 95mm to that measurement each time and kept measuring from the edge to the splinter guard moving the rail over each time.

Its not mm perfect but the holes are mainly going to be used for clamping.

My workbench is very, very similar.  I bored the top with a Woodrave jig in a few minutes.  Accurate enough for my squaring jigs.

Man... where can you get that black MDF in the states? Anyone know? Cool stuff...
