One of our fellow Foggers and I were discussing ways to extend the fence on an MFT/3. While at a training class in Vegas, he discovered that the profile from the original Kapex Extensions would fit on the Angle Unit (protractor). As it turns out, it makes quite a nice extended fence. I'm calling it, "SuperFence" or SF-KA.

Here is an overall view:

You can use the same adjustable clamp that slides along the edge profiles to obtain fence rigidity. You can extend the whole assembly out to where you can set the Flag Stop at about 7' - 8' from the cut.

You can't use the same Flag Stop but the one that comes with the Extension is very impressive...

That's pretty cool, but what I REALLY need is a TARDIS for a workshop!

That would be cool.  [big grin] Small on the out side but as BIG as you want on the inside.

What I didn't show was the legs and support bracket, which can also be added to support the work piece.

Now that is very cool. Yet one more system advantage even if unintended. Now where can I get the old extensions......cheap?

Actually now that I think about it the new extensions should connect to the MFT/3 groove and be the right height.  But that doesn't give the extended fence on the table.  Still  could be a handy added support.

Yeah, we thought about that, Seth.

It would be difficult to align them with the existing fence or make them rigidly oriented. Having one piece is a real advantage. This SuperFence can also be used at an angle just like the original.

I wasn't thinking of them so much as a fence as just added work support. I know I could have used it  a few times for long boards on site.

Ok, I got a hold of Tom. He is a nice guy we had a long conversation about everything,  life in general which is nice.

Even though it was a business call not everything is about business.

Anyway, I liked this set up and ordered it from him.

It took some thinking because of the expense. (Like all festools but it is my B-day).

Since I cut a lot of ply and needed something to make repeated cuts of longer pieces then the standard MFT fence and I can use this on my Kapex also (I built indeed/outfeed tables/cabinets for it) but didn't really have a extended fence for it yet.

I bought it.

I thought its a system and I can get more use out of it then just being attached to my MFT.

It is long enough to give me support for both of my MFTs whether I use the table connectors or not.

Anyway thought Id pass this on to everyone.

dont hate me coz ya aient me  [big grin]

Very cool -- congrats!  Let us know how you like this set-up once you have had a chance to play around with it.

Roger that, I will be reporting in. Tom said it should be here Tuesday.  I got some sheets of ply that need to be ripped (MFT w parallel guides) and cross cut (Kapex) so I will be putting it through its paces next weekend.
