need advice - stabila levels - magnets or no

Need some advice,

Currently looking for 72in or 78in level but not sure if the magnets are any use for general use. I'm not planning on hanging any doors which is where i see these referenced the most

Both stabila and sola have a 72 with and without magnets.
They also have the jamber set with a 78 and a 32. this seems like a great deal but again, is 78 going to be in the way when all i need is 6ft?

Do you miss having magnets or do they get in the way if you have them?

I hate magnets on my tools unless they are absolutely needed. The reason is because I often grind metal and then it sticks to magnets. Ugg. Unless you are doing steel stud framing I would pass on magnets. A piece of debris stuck to the magnet could throw you off a few degrees if you don't see it.

I have a 72" stabila with magnets.  I used to do commercial metal studs and drywall work and all doors have metal jambs so thats why I have it.  I feel the cutouts weaken the frame of the level. So unless you hang a lot of metal jambs I would go no magnets

No decision necessary.
On mine and most Stabila levels the handles pop apart and there is room to either glue or tape in flat bar neodymium / rare earth / high gauss magnets then snap handles back together.  Stronger than what Stabila even uses.  I use silicone because at the end of jobs it rubs off when I want them out.

I  like using the "R" Stabilas.

A magnetic torpedo level is used when needed.

Whatever fits.  The ones in photos are just what I had laying around so I doubled them up to increase holding power.  Open your Stabila up and measure available space to select something online that maxes out both depth and reasonable length. Double sided tape works well and some solvent later will allow them to be easily removed instead of trying to pry them out since the higher gauss you go the more brittle they become.
