need help from pros refacing kitchen cabinets!?

hi all im about to take on a first kitchen job, i was wondering if you pros can give some insight.

1.whats the typical cost of refacing these cabinets into shaker style using poplar stile/rails "professionally"

2.thinking of going with a semi gloss latex white paint.  what type of prime and brand should i look for?

3.I currently have a festool dts 400 eq, or should i buy a different sander for this kind of job?

4.all the hinges will be euro ikea style soft closing..anything cheaper or better or is that good enough?

hi ....nice kitchen !
was you thinking of making new doors or just adding to the ones you have ?

as you could easily add some rails to the face of the existing ones i would use mdf rather than poplar it will have less movement .but having said that it would probably be quicker to replace them with 18mm MDF than to sand all that paint or varnish off .
ikea type hinges as you say will be fine .as they are usually BLUMB which have been used on kitchen doors for as long as i can remember
and yes get another sander .each job is another excuse to buy a new tool (although the one you have will probably be fine )

thanks! ya i was going to replace it with .75in poplar rails/stiles with .25in ply for the panel. i hear you on making an excuse to buy new festools lol. just wanted to get an est on a job like this using the materials i wanted. its a project for a friends new home so i need a ball park for parts and labor.

There is probably others on the fog better qualified to help with costing a job .I don't really do domestic jobs like that anymore

It really is just materials + your time

My old college teacher used to say work out how long you think it will take ..
Then double it .you will be some where near it then ..and 30 odd years later he wasn't wrong

Though Im not a pro,  Shaker style typically has frame a panel construction. You could make a rail and stile end panels and attached the to the ends of your cabinets, the same with your cabinet doors.

You can also just distress them using milk paint and add shaker style raised panel doors,

Difficult to answer, not seeing the kitchen in person. You really need to go through the exercise of calculating how long you think it will take you to make and finish each component. You could balance it out your estimate with prices a large retailer such as HD would charge.

I think a lacquer would be a better choice.

It depends on how much time you have. The the DTS is a good sander,for tight areas but you have a number of different sized surfaces, you may want to consider a couple other sanders

Blum or equivalent soft close hinge will work.

I am a professional kitchen cabinet refacer..As much as I would prefer to build my doors I can't build them and finish them as the factory does. You can buy wooden veneer already pre stained to match the doors and drawer fronts. The veneer has a PSA backing which when applied correctly can't be removed without damaging the veneer. The doors and drawer fronts are finished with a catalyzed top coat and then baked on. The standard sheets of veneer come in 24"x96" sheets. There are web sites where the DIY can purchase all materials needed. The rule of thumb to know how many sheets of veneer is needed is for every 10 door opening equals 1 sheet of veneer. We always add 1 extra sheet. The average price of a finished door in maple or birch is around $70.00. The average price to reface a kitchen with approximately 21 openings is $5500 - $7000.
