Need Help with A Project

Hey guys I recently took on a little project from a coworker of mine. His wife wants their old 80's tube tv gutted and repurposed into a cabinet/shelf piece. All I need to do now is cut the shelf piece, install it and finish the front facing of the entire thing.

I'm thinking simple 3/4" quarter round to trim out the front face but I have this weird unfinished area on the left and right of the front inside I need to cover up. The unfinished wood is about 1 5/16" wide by 18" high. It's also got a lip that's about 13/16" which is the width of the wood I cut and put in.

I'm kinda stumped on this part so any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Try to flush cut with your new Vecturo (gotta get one) the wood away.

Otherwise I would put a wider piece of wood on both sides and cover the inside with a sheet flush with the face frame piece.

Maybe something with some longitude half round indents (good to have a router) on that piece similar you see in built-in units?

Hope I was clear enough....

There's no way to redo that vertical piece such that it's flush with the horizontal one, thus covering the unfinished area?  Then you could redo the pieces of corner round such that they meet up in a flush miter joint in the corners.

You guy made me look at the whole thing in an entirely different way. Luckily I used some tiny well hidden. Screws for that side piece instead of wood glue so I think I'm gunna take that side panel off and cut it 1/2" longer so it sits flush with the side piece of quarter round I haven't cut yet. It'll be hollow under that extra 1/2" but no one would ever know.

I'd love to know what your secret for that is, would come in handy for most of my projects  [big grin]

You could even cut a thin strip of 3/4 ply to place underneath (I assume that's what that backing is), that way the corner round would have something more substantial on which to anchor.

Haha I meant cut another panel 1/2" longer. Its only 1/4" ply and I have most of a 4x8 sheet of scrap left over still. It means the current panel will now turn into scrap but oh well.

Believe me, I'd love to figure out how to cut an already cut piece of wood longer too.
