Hi everyone. I'm working in chiswick in London fitting out a hotel and my Kapex just broke. The flip up handle on the back to change the angle the plastic part behind it broke and I can't change the bevel now.

Im from Ireland and its the only chopsaw on site and I have miles and miles of skirting to fit.

I urgently need the replacement part.

Can any one point me in the right place to go for it

Thanks so much in advance

Any FOGers in the area have a Kapex they can loan a part from theirs for a day or two until galwaydude can get a replacement? Pretty sure he'd buy you a Guinness or two.

Your best option is to search for dealers near you in Ireland by going here:
https://www.festool.ie/Dealers/Pages/Search.aspx

That might not work for the short term since my understanding is that he's in England on a job.  Would dealers in England normally stock parts and pieces?  I know in the US they typically don't.
Looking at the ekat diagram, i'm guessing you broke part number 470634.  I was going to suggest taking off cover behind it (470635) to see if you can rig some stopgap adjustment, but I've never had that apart so, instead I'm going to activate the 'bat signal' for you and see if [member=191]Rick Christopherson[/member] can chime in with any helpful suggestions for a quick fix while a local dealer can get the part fedexed to you.

As a temporary measure to get you through until you can get replacement parts, you could remove the rear cover to expose the bevel lock. I don't recall how many screws hold the cover on, but it is probably 2 or 4. With the cover removed, simply press against the bevel lock lever to release the bevel. When the bevel is adjusted where you want it, just release the bevel lock lever.

I took another look and there might be an even easier method to release the bevel lock. Just remove the one screw that secures the handle, and remove the tab and the handle. Then you should be able to push against the bevel lock lever without having to take the whole rear cover off. (P.S. it is held with 4 screws.)

Rick,

Great answers!  That kind of insight will go a long way until parts arrive.

And thanks for the pictures, they look really familiar.  They wouldn't happen to come from a supplemental manual we're all familiar with?  It's almost as if you had first hand access to them.....  [wink] ;D [tongue]

So when people ask me you buying that Festool, I should just print this thread out and hand it to them.
That, and the fact that I'm too lazy to learn Mandarin and Cantonese so I can talk direct to factory support at (insert other tool maker here)...

But not just because of the outcome, but because knowledgeable members gave potential workarounds. Because dealers in the US tagged UK service contacts. Because those contacts responded, despite being off site. Because they reached out to the service organisation to get the problem resolved. Because the service department are Fedex'ing the part to ensure there's minimal downtime. But most of all, because ALL of that happened within 2 hours...

Awesome guys. My hats off to all of you.

.......and to sum up - this is the benefit of the Owners group.......team work [smile]

Look forward to meeting up with those attending the DM Show at Kempton park later this week.

Everyone responded quickly, helped me with a work around until I get the spare part tomorrow. Part is free becaus its still under warranty. Festool service was excellent. Even got an email with the diagram so I could see the part I wanted just to be sure that they were sure.

Loads of lads always say well Festool is mad money. I always say ya maybe it is but they give you unrivalled warranty for three years. Your tool breaks down they collect it, you can get a loaner tool so your not stuck while yours in for repair and send it back to you once its repaired as well. All that cost me the user noting for the first three years.

Dewalt, Makita etc. all these names don't provide that service, they don't have the equivalent to FOG. To me its worth every single penny I spend on it. I work my tools hard. They don't look brand new but they work above and beyond for me and make me money every day of the week.

Hi Joiner1970 yip I got the compressor. A 50l 110v Jefferson one with a free accessory kit. Got an 18ga Makita pinner and just took delivery of a Bostich concrete nailer for it as well. I also bought a Draper Hi Vis air line. Its a lovely bright green that you cant miss on the floor. All in all I probably spent about €700 on it all including some fittings as well.

Its flat out putting on solid oak skirting and architrave all week so far. Cant fault it at all. The job is huge I mean really huge and there is only two of us here doing the joinery work

Someone somewhere needs to have this post etched in stone and available to anyone who shows any doubt about what Festool really means.

I am so pleased that our friend from Ireland is now back working flat out.

A simply brilliant result that brought so many people from different countries together to help a friend.
