Need leveling feet for 8020

Greetings from Washington state!

I’m making extension benches for my miter station out of 8020 and I’m having trouble finding simple leveling feet that don’t cost a fortune.

With the profile I’m using, the tapped hole in the butt end of the extrusion looks to be 5/8”.  Leveling feet with that fat of a shaft seem to be rated for several hundred or even thousands of pounds.  Even lighter duty ones are at least $7 USD. Given that I’m needing Qty 12 for my project, that adds up quick!

Anyone found an economical source for this bit of hardware?

Only inexpensive option that I can think of is a hex bolt and nut.  If you use an inch screw, grind off the grading marks.

Less surface area than a levelling foot, and certainly not swivelling like a real levelling foot.

I’m not aware of an extrusion (from anywhere) that comes with a “tapped hole”.

80/20 stuff in 1.5” and 40mm comes with an extruded hole but it’s only 5/16”/8mm.
That size extrusion is more than strong enough for shop equipment. Plenty of leveling pads in that size.

Correction: the holes are the appropriate size to be tapped (by you) for 5/16” or 8 mm.

I'm with Michael, I picked up some 5/16-18 levelers from Menards, a pack of 6 for $6.

Just curious how much weight you need to support?

Correct.  Tapped by me. 

My bad on the diameter.  That should indeed be 5/16 not 5/8.  Oops!


Heh, now that I'm into google with the proper diameter, I'm seeing more options that are reasonably priced.
Don't have Mendards in my corner of the planet but I think I'm onto something now.

[member=70097]Upcoaster[/member] FWIW that doesn't look like an 80/20 profile, I suspect it's some other manufacturer. Also based on your photo looks to be larger than 5/16" that is standard in the 1515 profile.

Perhaps closer to 3/8"?

You are right, it doesn't look like 80/20.    Its got the extra step on T-slot profile, so I would guess that it is Bosch.

The size of that end hole is not just some random size.  It is specifically the tap drill size for a specific thread.  Find your extrusion in the catalog, and see what end thread is available.  But I suspect that hole is for M12 thread.
 
In between 8mm (5/16”) and 12mm is 10mm.

That’s a Bosch 45mm profile.The bore is 10mm same as the 80/20 version of 45mm.
Not sure if it’s sized for 10 or 12mmm tap but leaning toward 10mm.
The bore of the regular 80/20 40mm profile is sized for 8mm tap so this is probably for 10mm.

I’d use either 10mm or 3/8” leveling feet, or bolts (if the end doesn’t need to swivel to make good contact with the floor).

 
Bosch 45x45 extrusion is sized to be tapped to M12

(available pre-machined from supplier, or you can do it yourself)

I got this extrusion second hand and was not astute enough to know it was Bosh or how to find such wonderfully detailed specs.

Once I got out my tap set and didd a few moments of trial and error however, I came to the same conclusion on the 12mm diameter.

For my application, I think these should do nicely.  I don't need thousands of pounds of load capacity for the extension tables at my miter saw station.  This works out to $3.30 (USD) each!  I like that these have a bit of swivel to them but it's probably not super necessary --my floor is overall quite level.
