I got a couple of tiny red oak splinters the other day.  But with the assistance of my 10x headband magnifier and a new needle point tweezers from Amazon.com for $10.00 it took just seconds to remove both.

I highly recommend.  These are the first "needle point" tweezers that are as sharp as actual needles.  You can dig splinters out from under the skin with these.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BAYWOFY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The Zeiss magnifiers cost $125.00 but you can find others for about $30.00 on Amazon.

I recommend both for effortless splinter removal.  (Just don't wait until you get a splinter to order.)

I have a pair of pre WWII German tweezers that are super-sharp and great for splinter removal. I have done exploratory surgery to get those deep splinters.    The tweezers are marked with RR in bold letters, then G Boley-Germany.  Like an anvil, sometimes the older tools are the best.

I had an earlier pair that was not quite needle-sharp and the alignment of the tips was not always perfect. I'm sure these are not to the same build quality as the German stuff, but for $10.00 it still gets my buy recommendation.

Likewise, my old Zeiss magnifiers are great, but I think any of the $30.00 ones would work fine too.

Thanks for the tweeter tip!

Before people go off looking for 10x visors… well don’t. They don’t exist. That Zeiss visor is probably 3x. You can’t get more than 3.5x in a single lens, but 3x is plenty for splinters and a lot of other stuff.

I don't know why I said 10X.  It does not say anywhere on the headband or lens what the magnification is.  I used to set stones in earings and sometimes I needed the magnification.  It is very old.  But seems never to have worn out.

Another good option is the PockeTweeze.  I've been using them for several years now.  I especially like that they fold up and can be part of a key ring.  They're also made in USA, not China.  [smile]

I have had the Lee Valley for quite a while, and they have removed a bunch of splinters. LV also has some tweezer with a built-on magnifier which would be a lot easier than holding tweezers in one hand, a magnifier in the other and positioning the hand with the splinter under both at the same time.

That looks pretty cool and if I did a lot of on-site work, that would be very handy.  But all that I do, I do in my basement shop, so the tweezers stay in the medicine cabinet.

On the other hand, that construction method pretty much guarantees alignment.  I do wonder if these are investment cast.  So either soft to prevent cracking when squeezed hard and the amount of squeezing will not crack it.  Entirely different metallurgy than the spring temper stainless used on the needle-pointed tweezers.

I forgot to mention that the needle-pointed tweezers come in a travel case--it would be too sharp and dangerous to carry any other way.

"Remember to anoint the tweezer with alcohol if you have to go deep."

Will do, good advice!
