In an effort to curb some of our recent spam on the forum, I've installed a new customization. Members with fewer than 5 posts will not be able to post links to other websites, including externally hosted images.

Sorry for any inconvenience this presents.

Shane

Shane, I have only seen one SPAM message, but it was quickly removed. THANK YOU to you and all mods for keeping the FOG in check and a great place to spend some (OK, a LOT of) time!

The funny thing is that I was editing a post and I was the first one caught while Shane was finalizing the settings. [thumbs up]

LOL.

Peter

Thanks, we do our best to keep the joint on the up and up. Seth and Peter are top notch.

And you all wonder how Peter nails the spam so quickly  [scratch chin]

Hey the five post minimum can be an incentive for new members to post!

Seth

Out of curiosity, does that mean a new user who puts a URL in his signature will have his first posts marked as spam? or does it just check the body?

BTW Paul...

I clicked your "blog" link and it took me to the "Host Gator getting started page".  Not certain that is where you wanted the link to take me... [huh]

This is a real shame!

Cutting off "business" offers that can do so much for us is so selfish!

Where am I going to have to go NOW to get instant access to cheaper "Blue Pills", better porn sites, revolutionary hair growth products, cures for every human disease for only $5.00 shipping, products to "enhance" my manhood, and 16,800 woodworking plans for only $49.00.

And charitable endeavors........ how am I going to get info now on helping those poor Nigerian widows of deceased high-ranking generals who stashed millions in their banks but unavailable to the widows unless they can transfer those millions into my U.S. account. I just want to help, though they DO promise I can keep half of the transfers.  Just trying to be a good, and helpful world citizen.

Clearly, the administrators are not thinking this through. So selfish, by limiting their discussions to their proprietary Green Products and not allowing the masses of helpful individuals who can make our lives, oh so much better with products and services that can benefit us so dramatically! And don't forget the wonderful addition to our language... through phonetic and symbolized spelling of new and exciting products... like "New, unbelievable PRON site, full of hard coar SECKS"! and "Buy V*I@G*R*A for only $1.25!"

Tsk Tsk!!

Wonderful Spam

Heh Heh!!  [big grin] [tongue]

If I go back and evaluate my own posts I would probably decide half of them qualified as Spam. [embarassed]

The customization simply prevents using links in posts until the member meets the minimum post threshold. It provides a warning message when they try to submit their post saying they can't include links. They then have the opportunity to edit the post accordingly.

The last Nigerian widow that got through my Spam filter claimed she was married to some dead-beat American helicopter pilot who had stashed his money in a Swiss bank account for years, and she now had to get someone to help her get control of the money before he wasted it all on certain German woodworking tools.

Agreed!
I am not sure how they keep up with all the crap that a site like this attracts. Having some first hand experience seeing how much spam and crap that gets posted on a social media site, I really appreciate their diligence.
Bravo Peter and Seth!

All those really great offers get sorted into a separate folder that only admin can view.  The real reason is so that we can take advantage of  all that for our greedy selves.  Seriously , over the past couple years the three of us have split about 20 mil. from Nigeria alone! Think we want to let anyone else in on that cash cow? ............  Nope.    [tongue]
