Due to structural issues in a two-story wall of my house, I had two bathrooms (and two closets) destroyed and re-built. This called for some woodworking from me. Heck, I could not have explained what I wanted to anybody else! Here's the album of before-and-afters. The wood is all pine and Douglas fir from the Home Depot here on Kauai, and the tools are my late father's Festools. Thanks, dad, for teaching me how:

Very interesting project!  I admit that after too many years in the industry I cringe when I see windows in a shower due to the maintenance issues that they present.  Yours - with the elevation of the shower heads seem to have a chance in my mind of surviving.  I know the curves were a pain, but they add so much.  In what I have read and seen, termites are a huge problem in Hawaii.  Was this the reason?

My guess is that others here like myself would love to see more of the architectural style of your home.  Hawaii has such an interesting mix of cultures and your blending of modern along with the Japanese is very interesting.

You must have had a great Dad.  He would be proud.

I like what you've done! Although, in Kauai, you could have torn down the walls and been just fine.

I have a close friend who has a condo at Puamana, in Princeville. I got a report just a couple of days ago that the snorkeling was out of this world at Tunnels Beach.

I'm jealous...

Yep, North Shore of Kauai is the place to be. Winter surf is moving in, so the snorkeling season up here is drawing to a close, but the surfing season is starting. Not sure if this will distract my construction crews from my house or lure them up here more often.

My dad certainly faced my phobia of power tools and got me past that one quickly! The Festool saw eliminating the need for a table saw did a lot of the work there, but he was a great teacher. He mostly built boats, but our first job together was the woodshop itself. He had already had prostate cancer for a couple of years and both needed and wanted an assistant to get the shop built, and I was determined to help. I had no idea I'd love it. It was great for us both; I found something wonderful and he didn't have to wonder what would happen to his shop and tools if he lost his battle. He died a year ago in August. What a parting gift he left me.

I must admit to start off with I was thinking ok he's done some tiling, then I saw the vanity unit and I must admit I like it its a hard to nail the style down. But i think thats what makes it unique.
