There is a (very) slim chance than Ron has read the book which is uncanny as the hero gets hit by a giant hot dog, covered in mustard, on page 127. Then in the naughty scene Ron spotted that my proof reader told to remove it.

Now as Rumpelstiltskin said - can we return to the thread.

My hope is that when my arthritis gets too bad to continue woodworking that I will be in a position to write the next book (or two).

I am sort of in the same boat.  One of these days, I will be unable to walk.  Right now, the arthritis is holding my spine together, so I am still able to work every day.  I have been writing little stories about my life as well as lives of some of my family and good friends.  I have made collections (and presented) for a several people who were especially dear to me.  I keep telling my wife that one of these days, i will put all of the stories together into a book for our kids. A good friend, also the subject of one of my collections has offered to take care of putting into a bound edition for me.

The stories i have spread thru out THE FOG are just a touch of what i have so far stored.  Nothing technical, but mostly just fun stuff >>> and all very true.  It is fun writing and telling such tales so when i wake up and can no longer walk, or, maybe cannot stand, I will still have something to keep me busy for a looonnnnngtime.  I'm optimistic so my glass is more than half full.  [big grin]

Yes, life is full of good days and sometimes bad ones too. Yesterday we said farewell to a good friend. He was a self made man who started from nothing. He had done a lot to help me over the years and so it was hard seeing him go. He was a truly determined chap. He lost a leg when he was 14 but despite that he was resolved to do normal work. He even played as goal keeper for a local football team. I have seen him doing ground work, wheeling a wheelbarrow on his land and working so hard that his stump would bleed.

Many years ago I used to raise money for a children's home. Kids would go into the home at age 3 and if they were still alive go into adult care at 18. I met an 11 year old girl who was completely blind. She showed me how to use a braille machine. She was so happy and bubbly. As well as being blind she was completely crippled with arthritis. I always think of her when I get a little pain and think just how lucky I am. I have had a full working life and mostly trouble free. She did not even get beyond that first step on the ladder. I think of her every day.

On one of your trips to the Tool Nut with the boss, consider taking the long way home and stop by the Mountain Brahaus Restaurant in Gardiner, NY.  Closed the first few weeks in January & every Monday, Tuesday.  Busy on the weekend, go early or mid-week.  No financial interest, just a semi regular patron.

Hey John,
The address don't work.  It does sound interesting.  On 1/10. I will be going to the Nut where a few nuts will be collecting for a few demos.  I will probably bring my grandson with me as he is getting a little interested in WW'ing.  I think his thumbs need a rest once in a while.  I don't know where Gardiner is, but if it is close enough to the nut, i will just follow my nose.  GS just turned 16, so, like most teens, he is sometimes interested in food, and he will go anywhere as long as he can drive  :.

There has been some conversation about shop neatness and cluttered shop.  I think it was jobsworth who mentioned how sloppy (or words to the effect) his shop is.  Take a look.

That is my grandson drilling for shelf pins on his Christamas present >>> from last year.  He was only just now able to find his way to the work bench.  Had to bring in one of his dad's excavators.

I am starting next week to make some wall shelves and cabinets so I can find my way around.  Yes, i really will do that. I really, really, really will.

Yup Tinker,
Yours looks like a clone of Jobbys shop. I did manage to build some things and move some things around so I got more storage. Still crowded though. Since I dont plan on building any big items til I get back to the states, Im going to remove the side extension and outfeed from my CMS. Give me some walk around space.
I should give up the hotdogs and lose some girth, maybe I can move around better. :>)

I don't have any sort of girth problem. The problem in my shop is that if i ever fall down, i won't be able to find up.

Happy New Year to you and everyone in Bielefeld.

You are very kind but it takes forever to get it right. There is a switch on my video camera that has 3 positions "record", "off" and "review". After every take I have to check that I have said what I think I said and make sure that I have remembered to switch the radio microphone on. So, that switch goes from "record" to "review" via "off" every time. I probably take 4-6 goes to get a clip right and each video will have 25 - 50 usable clips. I am really hoping that the mean time between failure for that switch on the camera is in the 100,000 plus region otherwise I am stuffed.

I am currently working on a video to help people decide which of the three Festool general woodworking routers to buy. I then intend to do a product tour of the OF1010. I have started but have a delay making a video about 3M ear defenders with radio and Bluetooth. I am filming the making of a TV cabinet which will feature push to open drawers and I am, as always, working on new ideas to follow on from the Parf Dogs. Oh, I have been asked to do something about rugged mobile telephones - someone contacted me who has broken his second smartphone and so I am doing some research.
