I see the new Carvex models are available for pre-order. Am I reading it right that the corded barrel model the trigger is not a variable trigger but the D-Handle model is? Why would they do that? Running a jigsaw in my opinion with a variable trigger is much nicer. I see that it has an adjustable speed wheel but If I am understanding it correctly it is an on-off switch only.

I have not looked at the carvex in person recently, so I might be wrong.  The description is as follows "With the D-handle models, the on board trigger can be used to control the speed for tight curves and various materials.  For fixed speed control, use the ON/OFF switch with variable speed dial."

Sounds to me like you have the option of a variable speed trigger and an on/off switch on the D models only.  The barrel grip models don't have a trigger to use for this purpose.  It is just not ergonomically feasable if you look at how you would be holding it.

welcome to the fog.
what your saying is true.
im not sure why its like that.
i like the variable trigger on my trion. i often use it like that  in tricky spots. i wouldnt like an on/off switch only

edit
sounds like there is a way around the on off switch

Thanks for the Welcome. Been reading this site for a few months. Wish I hadn't as I've spent $6K+ on festool since.....haha

The barrel handle has a switch on both sides that are ' on - off ' only. The handle version has a variable speed trigger and two switches on the body which are only ' on-off '  . If you put the speed to A ( automatic ) it will run at slow speed until the blade engages with whatever you are cutting and then speeds up . But it doesnt slow down again after you come out of the cut.!

Hi,

Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

I had a chance to check the 420s out a bit and they seem quite nice.

Seth

Hey guys,

It has been a long time since I have checked out the site, but still using my Festool tools all the time...  Decided to look in the FOG to see what was new with Festool...  OK - I am confused here...  I clicked on the link to the description of the "new" PS 400 on the Festool site, and its says available in the summer of 2011?  What gives, I was thinking this was supposed to be new?  Also, Seth says he checked out the 420's...  The link says it is a PS-400?  Just curious as to why it is inconsistent...

Hey Matt,

Good to see you posting on the FOG.
You are looking at an old post from 2 years back, before that model Carvex was canceled and went back to the drawing board.
The 420 should be here this Fall.
It's in the new 2013 catalog.
