Today some vendors accidentally put out the announcement about a new compact tablesaw, similar to the size of the Dewalt. This is exactly what I have wanted. I have the Sawstop Jobsite saw but i find it a hassle to get it in and out of my truck due to the size. This is perfect for moving around and storing. One of the vendors informed me that it will be out around October. It also has a rack and pinion fence.

Thanks for the heads up!  [eek]

I am glad to have this option for my next portable table saw buying decision.

Your Welcome. It will cost $899, which isn't too bad considering the safety factor in a very compact form.

Sign me up! Finally.

Or they could offer the festool table saw of which i would buy over that

This is sensational, any idea what the specs will be? I assume likely a 2-3HP brushed motor?

From the pic the top looks to be cast iron?

Here are some screen shots of specs before they started disappearing from the websites that advertised it.

According to eBay one sold on 6/26 for $974 from CPO outlets. I wonder if they actually shipped it.

I recall seeing comments in the older days by some naysayers that the SawStop technology would never benefit most construction site users because the SS Jobsite saw was too expensive or too heavy/large, etc.

The launch of the SawStop compact saws means that once the patent expires, all other saw makers can produce the whole range of competing saws (if they wish), and all future table saw users will enjoy the full benefits of the safety feature. (Of course, except those who choose to buy saws without such safety feature.)

Did they say how heavy this saw is?

Top and fence look very similar to my Dewalt.

I'm curious to see how it fairs in the wild. Assuming it's not plagued with random brake triggering $900 is cheap finger insurance.

"...once the patent expires..."

How long is that, and how many will be injured in the mean time.

"Top and fence look very similar to my Dewalt."

That was my first thought too. The rack and pinion fence system
looks almost identical to the DeWalt. Maybe DeWalt should sue
SawStop for infringement, just as SawStop did with Bosch.

What goes around comes around.

No idea. Since the day the original owner of SS and the other saw manufacturers couldn't come to any licensing agreement, resulting in the owner getting into the saw making business, everybody will just have to wait until legally other saw makers can produce their competing products. It's no different from people having to wait for the expiry of the patents on the Domino Joiners if they don't want to pay for the prices that Festool is asking for the DF500 & 700.

On the DF, I think by the time the legal clones are available, my woodworking life is probably close to reaching its end, if not already past it. Had I realized its capability and potentials at the time it was released, I would have got one on day 1. I had lost about 5 years of enhanced shop efficiency/productivity.

I’ll be buying one for sure. Rack & pinion, safety brake = no brainer.

With the rack and pinion aluminum extrusion rails it will be easy to extend the cutting width. Ive seen people buy extra extrusions and attach them to dewalt saws to give themselves cutting width up to 40".

Personally I'd like to see that happen.  [smile]

DeWalt vs TTS Tech?

Didn't the old Craftsman jobsite saw (1967 113.29901 model) have the rack and pinion fence? The Northfield also uses it.

The Dewalt rack and pinion fence patent expired. That's why you are seeing it on other saws now. I guarantee that if someone violated their patent, Dewalt would have immediately filed legal action with them just like Sawstop did with Bosch. There is a reason Sawstop won against Bosch. Although there were differences in the two systems, Bosch must have violated a patent somewhere that enabled it to work. That's just how corporate law works with patents. I for one like that Sawstop decided to make their own saws instead of just allow other companies to use their patent because of the customer service. Anytime I have ever had a question with my Sawstop they are very helpful and know the answer. If you call Dewalt with a problem, you are lucky if the person your talking to even knows what the tool is your referring too. Usually they are just reading from a script.

You guys know that SawStop is owned by Tooltechnic Systems. Which is the same umbrella that Festool is under.

Doesn't mean that I still wouldn't want to see SawStop get their come uppance in court...no matter who the owner was. Do onto others...
