Don't count on it. Battery tools are all the rage these days.First I wanted the corded CT STS dust extractor to make a come back with variable speed suction.
You are right that cordless is all the rage these days. I like and use cordless tools daily. But the run time on the CTC SYS is not even close to enough to make it useful to me. So in this case I would rather have the cord. I realize my only hope is to find new old stock somewhere, the recon sale or something used.Don't count on it. Battery tools are all the rage these days.
SYM 70 (wired) got discontinued in favor of the 2x18V SYMC 70
Amen...I didn't purchase a CT SYS because I figured when they released revision #2, it would have variable suction. Unfortunately, revision #2 with variable suction became battery powered instead. But the run time on the CTC SYS is not even close to enough to make it useful to me. I thought the MFK 700 was already a pretty niche product. This thing seems even more so.Scratching my head at the cordless OFK offering though, I would have thought that to be a very niche or low volume seller because of the high cost of the proprietary cutters?
The MFK though takes standard cutters, and is like the Swiss Army Knife on steroids version of a trimmer, incredibly good at what it's designed for as well as very high precision general use. The OFK on the other hand, the cutters are well over the $100 mark here, if you can even find them!I thought the MFK 700 was already a pretty niche product. This thing seems even more so.
Can never have too many trimmers!OFK gets into tighter spaces. It's why I kept my Dewalt trimmer despite having nicer routers.
Don't quote me 100%, however I recall on another Festool tool overview video of the new Domino DF500, that the new updated fence did not fit the existing Domino motor assembly. This was mentioned in the comments section of the video. If this is the case, it's a bit of a bummer that existing Domino customers don't have the ability to upgrade as I'm sure quite a few would. Not a good strategy in my opinion. I'm sure this will be confirmed officially. It will be possible to use new Domino fence on old DF500?
It was put to a Festool rep who confirmed the new fence isn't backward compatible unfortunately.Don't quote me 100%, however I recall on another Festool tool overview video of the new Domino DF500, that the new updated fence did not fit the existing Domino motor assembly. Given the chance I'd definitely return it for the newer model, however If you've already bought into the Festool battery platform, the cordless with the DF700 style handle would be a very good choice I reckon.Just got a DF500 that’s still sitting in the box unused. Perhaps I’ll return it and wait to see how the new one is.
On the German website it says September for a release. Any predictions on how long before it hits the US market?Given the chance I'd definitely return it for the newer model, however If you've already bought into the Festool battery platform, the cordless with the DF700 style handle would be a very good choice I reckon.
If i didn't already have one, that's the model I'd get. A D handle on the corded model would have been nice.
Wait, it didn't have to be on like the 500?Just like the DF 700![]()

Also, on the 500, if you switched it when not on, does it the machine catch fire? i've always been so scared of that lol
I looked at the CT15 when I gave up on a corded CT SYS. While nice and fairly compact, it's not nice enough for me to buy one. I have CT Midi under my Kapex that I unplug and use when I need to go mobile. The systainer form factor and smaller size of the CT SYS would be enough for me to buy one. I don't need a lot of capacity for dust/clean up. I do however need more runtime than the battery allows.Amen...I didn't purchase a CT SYS because I figured when they released revision #2, it would have variable suction. I have 2 very specific needs for a CT SYS, vacuuming the AC condenser coils outside to remove the "cotton" from nearby cotton wood trees and vacuuming train tracks that run along at the 8 ft level for LGB garden trains. Both tasks need to be done at least twice each year and using the Miele canister vac with a 5' hose is just not very convenient or easy. My present options are to drag up CT's from the basement or drag in CT's from the garage.I looked at the CT15 when I gave up on a corded CT SYS.
