Hello everyone. I recently purchased a DF700 joiner. Anxious to put it to good use. I've been reading all I can find on using it. I have a question regarding the dominos. Why does Festool only offer the assortment pack in the Systainer? I have two of them already but want to just buy an assortment of sizes without the case. I see where I can buy individual dominos but no assortment packs.
Is this by design? Why?
TIA.

Note that the assortments ALSO include the respective mortising bits besides just the Systainer, so they're including quite a bit in the bundle.  The DF500 bundle includes all 5 thicknesses plus all 5 bits (4, 5, 6, 8, 10 mm), whereas the DF700 bundles are broken up into an 8mm/10mm bundle and a 12mm/14mm bundle.

The assortments also include only the "standard" sizes of dominoes; you can't get the 8x36 mm in anything other than a lone pack or with the KV-8 Connector set.

The intent of the bundles is to wet your beak, get some bits into your hands, and let you see which sizes you use the most.  The majority of people then supplement/purchase just the sizes that they need for the majority of their projects, or purchase them as needed for pieces they make.  I'd venture to guess that 50% of the DF500 and DF700 users who have the bundles have one or two sizes that are either completely unused or that have been used just for test purposes and are just taking up space.

Makes perfect sense. Thank you.
I already have all the bits. I'm looking at the adapter for the smaller dominos as well.

I recommend you use the assortment to figure out what size Dominos you use the most and from then on, buy the 750m stock and cut to the length you need for a given project. It's much more cost effective that way. Like many new tool buyers, I got the assortments and they have value, especially since they included the cutters and the nice Systainer. (Systainers can always be repurposed, too) But in the end...the kind of work we each do and the sizing of the materials we most often use will mean we will use a lot of a size or two of the Domino tenons for the majority of our work. The assortments then become utilities to cover the less common needs and the long stock covers the majority over time. Custom lengths is also handy sometimes when one is doing some form of "interesting" jointery, too.

I bought the assortment set, and have actually used all of them, except for the 4mm. I have used a few of them too, but those are the ones you get in the greatest quantity, so there are still a lot left.
I go through more 6 x 40 than any other, with 8 x 50 next and 5 x 30.
I get them in the bigger quantity boxes and store an open bag in the assortment Systainer.
Been considering the DF700 for quite some time, but just don't have the need for the bigger ones often enough. There are times when it would have been better, but I always seem to be able to work around it.
