Happy New Owner But I'm Stuck - Need Adapters For Midi I

Hi everyone, I researched these products for months before finally taking the plunge and spending a lot of money to get into the Festool brand. After everything I read on this forum and saw on YouTube I had no doubt that these were good investments.

I bought a CT Midi I, and a RO150, but that's not where I'm having problems. I also bought a Paint shaver (absolutely incredible tool), and the Oneida Dust Deputy SD Cyclone (the one that attached to the Midi).

Unfortunately, my Midi I doesn't connect out of the box to the Oneida. The black hose that comes with the Oneida will not fit into the port on my Midi without some sort of adapter.

I'm having a similar issue with my PaintShaver. I can't for the life of me figure out what adapter I can buy to connect these two properly.

I don't want to use Fernco's after spending this much money on proper tools, so I'm hoping you all can point me in the right direction as to what I can purchase to make these work for me. I don't want to lose CFM.

Thanks very much for everything here that helped me decide on my purchase, and thanks for helping me with this. I'm attaching some photos of the two connections I'm trying to make.

There's a bunch of YouTube videos on using PVC pipes as adapters. Here's one of them:

OK, so that spiral hose that Oneida sends out, is just dumb.

The hose you need is actually a dead-ass standard ShopVac hose.  The 2.5" one.  They used to be like $20 at Lowes or HD.

I have NO IDEA why Oneida sends those with their cyclones.  They don't fit anything, in my experience.  But the regular "almost every brand in the US" hoses work fine.

Last night, I came across a listing for the Oneida Systainer Dust Deputy (I also have the CT MIDI I) and sent off an inquiry to Oneida. This is their response:

"The Ultimate Dust Deputy is meant for the larger CT models than the Mini, Midi and CT 15.  The UDD can work with these smaller models but modifications and additional adapters will be needed.

Attached are the modification instructions on how to mount the UDD to the smaller CT models.

Now with the inlet for the CT-15 being inside the hose garage a straight adapter cuff will be needed to attach a hose to the inlet to the UDD.  We do have an adapter that a customer made work for them.  Below is the link for this adapter that would connect to the end of the black hose.

Customers have also utilized Fernco adapters, rubber adapter usually found in the plumbing dept. of a hardware store, have made great adapters to make this connection.  The next thing is that the supplied 2” hose may not fit through the hose port from the inlet and allow the hose garage lid to be closed all the way.  You may need to have the hose go down under the overhang to come back out."

This is one the most useful videos I've ever seen! That will solve a few of my issues. Not sure if it will help with my PaintShaver issue, but I will see what I can come up with. Thank you!

Really cool! Thank you. I will check out getting a shorter one.

This is the exact same response that they sent me, verbatim. Their adapter doesn't look right, so I may have to get a different hose as suggested by the other post.

I don’t have a paint shaver. But, from the picture you posted, it looks like you may need the larger 36mm hose to connect on the outside of that vacuum port. But that’s just a guess.  Do you have a caliper to measure the Outer Diameter of that connection?
Did the paint shaver come with its own hose? The tool port on that paint shaver has those barbs that you will need to keep in mind, if you are trying to attach a festool hose directly to that tool.

Most larger festool tools will work with either the 27mm or 36mm hose. Their tool ports are designed such that the 27mm hose end fits inside of the tool ports, and the 36mm hose end fits on the outside of the tool ports. As mentioned, this is found on the saws, larger routers (1400, 2200) and some others. Most of the sanders use only the 27mm (except for the Planex sanders).

All this to say that it is not uncommon to need both the 36mm and the 27mm hose to get the best dust extraction across the tool range.
