Just got my first Festool sander to replace and old Dewalt one. I was excited to test it out. Put the test 80 grit paper on it was barely doing anything. I tried the same paper on my Dewalt and it worked fine. I turned the ETS 125 back on and noticed that it doesn't rotate. It just vibrates. Not a good first impression.

It sounds like the brake might be too tight. You might want to loosen the nut (a fun project on its own!) and re tighten again. If it still isn't rotating, take it back to the dealer or call Festool service.

Cheers. Bryan.

Based on my early experience with mine, it will soon loosen with use. Also it will not fully rotate until it is placed on the work surface.

Hope you resolve this to your own satisfaction because this is a gem.

But as said by Bryan, if in doubt give a Festool a call.

The ETS does not rotate the same way an RO does. It does not do aggressive stock removal, better for finish work.

If you're just holding it in the air looking at it, there will be no or little rotation. Put it on a surface.

The ETS 125 is a fine finish sander, so it is not meant to be as aggressive as your Dewalt might be.
