Ok, here goes.  I am sitting here just out of my hot tub trying to figue out how to make sense out of this web site.  I am not making much progress.  I can read the various posts. but cannot reliably figure out how to respond to them.  I have made a number of responese posts the last couple of days, but have not seen any of them actually show up.  The "spell check" does not seem to work on my machine so I guesss I will become a lurker until I can figure this thing out.  I will respond when and if I can.  See ya all.

Jerry,

Of all the people on this forum who I would like to see post, you would be in the top five.  (The other four are posting already.  :) )  You are a very valuable resource to the people on this forum and to me personally.  Let me be the first (among many) to volunteer my help in resolving any issues that may crop up for you.

This post came through fine.  Shortly, I'll will start a series of tutorials on how to take, post process, and upload images.  Having seen the photos on your website, I doubt if you'll need help with the first two.  My first tutorial will be the upload tutorial which I hope to complete this weekend.  You may find that useful.

Dan.

p.s., also please feel free to PM me at my personal EMail (I believe you have it) or at the forum e-mail.  For forum EMail:
1) Click on the "Author" name to the left of their post. This will take you to their "Profile" page.

2) At the bottom of the Author's Profile page, under the box entitled "Additional Information", click the link entitled, "Send this member a personal message."  The "New Message" window will pop up.

3)  In the "New Messenge" window, the user's name will be loaded automatically.  Add a Subject, a message in the box under the smileys, and click the "Send Message" button.

Regards,

Dan.

Jerry,
Ok, here goes. See ya all.

As Dan said, I consider you a very valuable member of this forum.  I don't understand what's happening with your group postings.  Just so you know, your postings are visible to others.

The spell-checker is also a mystery to me.  It works fine for me, and I've used it from a number of different locations.

Have you tried to post messages from a different computer?  Sorry if that's an obvious question, but the first thing that comes to mind in these situations is whether it has to do with the computer your using to access the group and not the group itself.

Dan has a lot of computer knowledge, and is also a valuable member here!  I'm hoping we can figure this out.

Thanks,
Matthew Schenker

I have to agree with the pro-email folks on this one.  I have a software development background (20+ years), and I find bulletin boards particularly annoying as far as the User Interface goes.  Disk space is cheap, and for reviewing posts on my laptop, I can't always assume an Internet connection is available, or speedy.  My computer can do a local search pretty quickly, I delete posts that aren't relevant to me locally, and if I need reference material, I can always download documents when needed.

On the plus side, being able to organize by topic on the site, and control available storage space on the web site is great.  I would be curious if there is anyway to tell how many members used the forward email functionality on the old site.  That would give a good idea of "user" preferences.  I am hopeful a solution can be found.  I would hate to see my ability to learn and contribute drop off as I have done with Old Woodworking Machines website when they made a similar switch.
