New Festool jigsaw model?

I had a look at that link & whilst i don't know about the jigsaw, i saw on there that Festool had a promotion up until end of Dec that if you bought any router you got a free sys1 with bit holder.  Can Forrest or any of the Brits confirm this as i bought a of1010 but never heard of this offer.

Thanks, Woodguy.

Yes, I can confirm that was one of their Autumn offers. I think you missed my post when I gave details of all their offers back in September!

For details of this and the other Autumn offers, see the Festool Facts Autumn Newsletter

So that you don't miss further offers, I suggest that you register your name and you'll get sent an e-mail when the next on-line newsletter is available and when the next set of offers comes round.

Although the Autumn offers expired on 31 Dec 2009, I wouldn't be surprised if you found a dealer who was able to extend one of the offers if you were thinking of buying a new tool. Persuading a dealer from whom you have already bought a tool might be more difficult!

Thanks Forrest, i have just sent my rep a text message to remind him that i SHOULD have received one when i bought the 1010.  I have registered now so shouldn't miss the offers.

Guys, back on topic from cordless and router to the jigsaw.........there are some really cool things coming down the pike related to the jigsaw.  A cordless saw, or a cordless 18v saw (hmmm, is it true?) are just the tip of the iceberg with what the saw can do.  It will revolutionize jig saws and how we use them and what we use them for.  Just a hint, this feature has NOT been mentioned in this thread at all.

Also, keep your eyes out and keep your fingers ready to type about a few other very cool, not even introduced in Europe yet stuff that's coming.

hi sean, the only thing i can think of that could revolutionize a jigsaw would be if it could be used for multiple purposes such as jigsawing and reciprocating. i think in the u.s. you call this product a sawzall.
here in australia we call it a reciprocating saw.

however, i see one problem with this. i abuse my construction power tools, i try not to, but i end up replacing all my on site tools every 3-4 years.
i cant imagine bringing a festool jigsaw into a roof space and then accidently dropping it down a ladder, which has happened with my makita recipro.
i treat my festools very delicately, as i like how precise they are and intend to keep them this way for a long time.

anyway, thats enough speculation from me, thanks for throwing out the bait, lets see who else bites!

regards, justin.

Hi All

A little more information for you.

The new Festool Jigsaw will be called the Carvex. You apparently will be able to carve with it. It will replace the PS/PSB300.

I believe that it will be unveiled next month at the woodworking show in Nuremburg, Germany.

Just noticed this and wanted to confirm that I bought an of1010 last year and got the sys1 router bit case, very handy. The router has gone back for repair already though, I only used it for about 20-30 minutes total and its started vibrating badly so I dropped it off at my dealer last week to send back to Festool. Anyone know how long it takes it will be a week tomorrow and not heard anything yet, the Festool catalogue says 48 hour turn around.

Yea, i never got mine. I asked the rep but he said that because he discounted it heavily because they couldn't shift them, he couldn't do the special offer.  Cant complain, i only paid 220 GBP + vat for it.  My Rotex is going back tomorrow as i can hardly hold it on a surface as it is jumping all over the place.  I am not going to hold my breath on getting it back.  From the sound of things the Festool customer service in the States is much better than the UK.

Hope you get your router back minus the vibration!

The "48 turnaround" on the Festool UK website is explained as "In most cases we will complete repairs within 48 hours".

So firstly there's the "most cases" bit, which allows for a longer time, perhaps if parts have to be ordered from Germany. Then there's the "we will complete repairs within 48 hours" bit, which implies that they try to repair within 48 hours of receiving it. So added to that would be the time the dealer takes to package it up and arrange for collection, the time it takes the courier to collect, transport and deliver it (perhaps a 48 hour service itself) , and the same process for the return journey. When you consider that weekends are probably not counted, collecting it about a week after dropping it off at the dealer seems quite feasible.

I had my first experience of Festool UK's repair service recently (I had an issue with the electronic brake not working on my OF1400), and I have to say I was more than happy with it. Rang them Monday morning & spoke to Amy, she asked me to fill in the repair form (from the UK website) and fax or e-mail it to them. I did that, and within 10 minutes I had an e-mail saying it would be collected that afternoon.

It presumably reached them on the Tuesday, then they turned it round in 48 hours and despatched it back Thursday, and it arrived Friday. The 48 hours obviously doesn't include collection & shipping (if it did they would have no time to repair it!).

I could have driven the 30 mins or so to my dealer & got him to send it back, but I didn't see any advantage to that. If I'd needed the router, I'd have taken it to him then and got a loan machine, but since I didn't need it I didn't bother.

My only criticism of the whole process from my point of view is that I would have liked to have got an e-mail from them on the Thursday saying "we've repaired it & sent it back and it will be with you tomorrow". But other than that, no problems.

Joiner, if yours has been over a week I would give them a ring tomorrow. All the contact names & direct numbers/e-mails are on the UK website.

Also, it may be worth checking when your dealer *actually* sent it - they could have delayed it for a day or two.

Oh, and as an aside - I asked about transferring warranties, something which several people have said they're unsure about in the UK. Graham from Festool confirmed that UK warranties are indeed transferrable - if you're thinking of buying second-hand, you can send them the serial number & they will confirm how long is left on the warranty for you (and presumably check it's not registered as stolen!).

Yay! Thank you very much for asking them, and giving their reply here. I've bought quite a lot of my Festools second-hand, and have always meant to ask them if their warranty is transferrable like it is in the USA.

I'm off to send them some serial numbers!

Thanks again

Forrest

I have not heard a thing from Festool I took it into my dealer as I couldnt wait in all day for a courier to turn up so thought the dealer option was best. I bet the dealer didnt send it off for ages knowing what they are like. When I dropped it off he never noted down any of the details of the problem that I told him god knows how Festool would have known what to check, so when I got home I emailed Festool just in case with all the details. The dealer even told me "oh they will just send it back to us with new brushes thats what they always do" I hope they dont just do that  ??? >:(

Woodguy.

GBP 258 inc vat was that just the 1010 on its own thats a very good price I payed GBP 317 inc vat for a 110v of1010 systainer and 800 rail.(free sys1 router bit holder)

I got the 1010 & a systainer (& a toy panda) but no rail.  My dealer said they wernt shifting them so they reduced the price just to get rid of them.  I spoke to them today regarding the new jigsaw.  He tells me they are getting them in next month & that they will have interchangeable bases for carving etc.  Sounds interesting.

I only just got my new Festool jigsaw about 2 to 3 months ago  [sad]

Ahh, but will it include a super bright LED so we can see what we're doing??

Brice,

I was thinking along the same lines.  It still seems like it would take more than that to do carving.  It will be interesting to see what they have come up with.

i have never heard of a coping foot, so thanks for the link brice.
i could have been doing with the coping foot right before christmas.
i was using the trion for scribing skirting as the coping saw blades kept breaking.
it was faster using the trion, i imagine with this coping foot, it would be even faster.
i think the old trion will be going on ebay very soon............

I have to add to this thread a minor off-topic comment... the dealers on this forum are fantastic and most of you have comments that say your local dealers you have dealt with are also on the ball.  Kinda wish it was the same here in Chandler... my local dealer doesn't even know how to use a quick-release vice (seriously... i taught him) and I tend to answer a bunch of Festool questions when I shop there because he stammers and has no clue.  The thanks I get is not being able to return a pint of stain because I admitted that I opened the lid and took a fingertip to what was on the lid and applied it to my scrap to determine it wouldn't work... the reason? "well, you opened it."  btw, had i brought the scrap to the store, they would have done the same and been okay with putting it back on the shelf "pre-opened".

Okay, back at it!

That sounds a bit harsh.  You know what to do with your advise in the future, keep it to yourself, & sc*#w them.
