New Festool owner confused about the CT26's connected tool amperage rating.

Hi,

I just bought the 55 track saw and the CT26 vac about a week ago. So far I love the system. I saw in the manual that the max connected amperage for the vac's outlet is 3.7 amps. Is this correct? I as under the impression the automatic switch was supposed to work with the track saw. I have cycled it a few dozen times this week before this discovery.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!

In this case forget about what you have read.  Just plug in the saw, let her rip, and have fun!  Honest!  If there is an issue it will be the breaker in your house that trips.

It not only works with the 55 but also the 75, the Kapex, Domino, etc.  Enjoy your saw, you will probably own some of these others some day.

I have never had a problem with this setup. I routinely use this on a 15A circuit, and even when I make very aggressive ripping cuts, I never trip the breaker. It would make little sense for the vac to limit the current of a connected tool to 3.7A. In general I find Festool current specs--when they are provided at all--uninformative at best and misleading at worst. Festool is certainly not alone among makers of power tools in this regard.

It's a UL formality, not a real world limit.  It isn't just Festool that has to play by the rules set forth by UL/CSA.

TS75 trips my vac all the time, specially on hardwoods.  I bought an accessory auto/on/off switch and run the saw and vac through it, works fine.    This tip was given to me by other members on this list.  There is no way with a 15 amp circuit you can get excellent performance from a Festool Vac, and have much amperage left over for plug in tools...  fortunately, most Festool tools draw very little amperage, the TS75 being the biggest culprit.
