Hi!

Starmix published/released this on German forum: werkzeug-news.de. (https://www.werkzeug-news.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=42671 )

Adaptor plate to mount T-Loc & Classic Systainer or L-Boxx (or another new, not yet released toolbox system) to Starmix compact and i-Pulse dust extractors.

Other toolboxes can be mounted by using straps.

Power cord and hose can be stored/mounted on adaptor plate.

Adaptor plate can be mounted to all Starmix compact and i-Pulse dust extractors without using tools. Compatible with all future Starmix dust extractors.

Adaptor plate will feature 4 marked spots for drilling, which can be used to attach adaptor plate to other manufacturers dust extractors - if layout is compatible.

Very cool!

It appears that Starmix is following Nilfisk in offering a mounting plate that accommodates both Systainers AND the Sortimo/L-Boxx cases, very clever on their part.

I wonder if these will be available in North America?

What strange and fortuitous timing! I had actually carved out some time tomorrow to adapt a Karcher sys-plate to fit my i-Pulse - now I can sell that imported plate and instead look forward to the real deal! Finally!!!

Thank you for that, Oliver. I was just mulling over whether to get a Metabo Metadepot (the Systainer adaptor for the older ASR2025) and butcher that to go onto my ASR35M - now I know that Starmix 9and presumably Metabo in due course?) are releasing a ready-made solution I'll hold my horses a bit

I wonder if them can make one for my Festool CTM, likely be better plastic than the standard hose garage that Festool provide...

A word of caution - the Smartfix rails (which are available separately as an accessory) are not compatible with pre-2018 iPulse vacs. During the initial roll out of the Smartfix concept, the marketing language in use at the time didn't make this clear. I went back forth with a a German retailer and with Starmix and almost became a victim of this confusion. Now, with the forthcoming roll out of the OEM sys-plate, this confusion should be reduced.

So would the ASR 35 mentioned above be compatible? It does seem the rails would only work on the new (and seemingly NAINA) iPulse since it needs the updated top that has the molding to hold the rails.

That being said, is there presently a Systainer dock solution for the older style ASR 35?

I think there might be some confusion. The image included in the OP's post shows the forthcoming sys-dock that will give all of us pre-2018 i-Pulse vac owners (and this includes the currently available Metabo-, Hitachi-, CS Unitec-branded versions - which, although they may be marketed as the "latest-greatest" are more than a season behind the most current model) the opportunity to fit systainers, etc., to the top by way of a tool-less adapter that rests on the lid and locks to the handle.

This is not to be confused with the Starmix "Smartfix" rails (which are available as a spare part in Europe) that now come standard on certain versions/packages of the NAINA i-Pulse vacs. Basically, we get the leftovers here in N.A. so it will be be a while before existing stock is sold and somebody (be it Metabo or someone else) decides to import a shipment of the Smartfix-compatible machines. In the past, this was annoying since there was no OEM sys-dock option available anywhere in the world for the late model i-Pulse vacs. That is apparently about to change. Even so, I suspect that anyone wanting to outfit their non-Smartfix-compatible vac with the forthcoming sys-dock will be forced to find a retailer in Europe willing to ship this part to N.A. IOW I highly doubt they'll be available here anytime soon.

Edit - I should have also mentioned that the Smartfix-compatible lid (and Smartfix rails) are available in Europe as spare parts - I was aware of the rails but not the lid, the latter of which I only came recently while googling the topic:

Part number is 444673 (for the lid) and 445106 (for the Startmix rails) and the total cost runs about 80 euro (sans GST) plus shipping. There are not any electronics buried in the lid so it should be a fairly straight forward matter to swap lids. Note - Depending on your particular version, the color scheme may not match.

Here's another possible source.

GREAT looking out! Thank you!

Dang. I'd imagine that top would fit on the old ASR 35's, don't you think?

Ok, who lives in Europa and wants to mail one to USA?? ;)

[member=22929]worldburger[/member] - yes, as I understand it, the replacement top will fit all i-Pulse vacs, yours included. In fact, that's exactly how they are being marketed, "Retrofit your vac to the new Starfix sandard."

A few years ago I adapted a Festool Systainer cart to serve as a docking station for my Metabo ASR 35. It worked "ok", but to do so involved having to remove the top section, which turned out to be a rather involved process, I think I removed and reinstalled over a dozen screws and I think I had to remove and reattach the power cord. Either way, it's absolutely doable to replace the top section, but it's involved. If I were to update my Mafell S-35 to dock Systainers, personally I'd be more inclined to go with the docking plate rather than replacing the entire upper housing.

I've actually come to enjoy using my S-35 "naked", it helps to keep the vac nice and small, and if I want to set something on it the top is flat so tools won't slide off.

Just heard back from Starmix. At this point the planned rollout of the sys-dock isn't until October 2019 (!). That stinks. So, it looks like I'll be trying to get my hands on a replacement lid. Fingers crossed.

Thanks [member=61712]six-point socket II[/member]!

I can't help but wonder why the release for this part is nine months out? After all, the longer Starmix waits the less of these machines will still be at work and the less of these sys-docks they will sell. Wouldn't it make more sense to get this into the marketplace ASAP (and saturate same)? Weird logic.

Of course, it does appear to be a somewhat complicated mold but the fact Starmix waited all these years to design it is another head-scratcher, especially since they had experience with a custom sys dock in the recent past (a.k.a. the aforementioned "MetaDepot" and the Mafell-branded version as well). Maybe Metabo and Mafell indicated that the product didn't sell very well and so Starmix was hesitant to go out on a limb with an i-Pulse version? If that's the case, they didn't see the writing on the wall in regards to Festool's and Tanos' growing popularity.

Ah, yes, Brice. Your involvement in the (long!) Starmix thread over on the Mafell Users Forum (and your other related posts on the same topic) have been the source of much inspiration for me over the last couple of years. Thank you for your willingness to adapt and modify your tools to get the most out them and also for taking the time to post about your efforts! Where would Mafell (or, for that matter, Festool) be without all of the selfless sharing that goes on between us forum members?!) :)

They should have done. Makita licensed the Systainer design about 4 years back and have gone mental over here with a Makpac (aka licensed copy of the Classic Systainer) insert for what looks like about 80% of their range these days, Metabo have their own compatible Metalock box (having previously supplied tools in Tanos-supplied Systainers both classic and T-Loc), Mafell, Lamello and Mirka all supply kit in Systainer T-Locs, and even Hitachi supply some stuff in versions of the Systainers. Very common in Germany and the EU and very popular - so not just a Festool thing

How are you going to try and get a replacement lid? I'd be interested in buying one as well.  Perhaps we could investigate ordering multiples and saving on the trans-Atlantic shipping...

I've had some dealings with Starmix in the past and have a contact that I'm in the midst of corresponding with. (It's his turn to respond.) I'd planned to add updates to this thread when I had them and will still do so. On that note, I also contacted two retailers requesting quotes but haven't heard back from either. Which reminds me that I need to send each of them round-two. I will definitely include your willingness to join-in on shipping. Selling two of everything rather than just one should be more persuasive. Stand by.... :)
