Chipping chisel function, nice.  Probably won’t trade for my Milwaukee SDS 1 1/8" but nice if you’re Festool platform only.  Iused to keep it in a SYS II but with the bits it was a crowd.  I have since moved the whole kit and kaboodle into a SYS3 L.  I really like the Ls and have moved longer tools into that size. They are perfect for my Flex  and Milwaukee auto polishers, a second one has the mini Flex polisher, chargers and batteries. I have couple more but can't think off hand what I moved into them.

I may yet bite, needs to be 4J+ for consideration, if it is 5J will get one 100%.

Tough to justify the cost for a tool requiring virtually no precision. I am thinking the anti-vibration technology might be substantially better than the competitors and that could push some into it.

I seriously doubt that, but I'd love to be proved wrong. Anything with that level of single impact blow is usually well into SDS-Max territory. Looking at the size and construction of that machine, I'd guesstimate 3J tops. I'd also mentionto [member=652]JimH2[/member] that Hilti's AVR technology has now been around for 5 years and is into its 3rd incarnation. I can personally vouch for just how effective their AVR is. It will be very interesting to see what Festool come up with for sure.

…new dust removal attachment, which also has not yet been released.

Yes, please!

No disrespect intended towards our gracious hosts, but this (again) is years-old technology - which I've been using daily for all of that time. As said - I'm genuinely looking forward to the Festool offering. I'd like to know if the company has continued down its path of coming up with unique, innovative, game-changing products - or whether this is just a 'me-too' product being delivered several years late to the party.

Would be nice if that dust attachment works on the current smaller cordless hammer drill. I like the bellow design. That will come in handy. If it fits the BHC, I'll end up buying it.
I'm a big fan of the Bosch dust extraction items. The older festool drill / dust extraction shroud works well enough but the Bosch ones are a bit better.
Can't see buying this festool drill though. My BHC 18 handles most of what I need. For what it can't handle I pull out the Bosch SDS

Me likee...that seems like a nice small-medium sized hammer drill. It may fit nicely in between the two I already own.

The Milwaukee SDS-Plus 5368 is a bit small at 2.5 Joules but it's light and handles well, and the Milwaukee SDS-Max 5315 at 11 Joules is great but it is also very heavy at 15 pounds. Depending upon its energy output, this new Festool offering could be a great fit between the hammer drills I already own. Something around 5-7 Joules would be nice. I also really like the form factor, it's so compact and appears to be easily handled with one hand, also being cordless is another bonus round.

The name of the accessory hints to us that it is also suitable for BHC - 577524 Festool AV-BHC/KHC.

To be fair to Festool, all they’re doing is releasing an SDS drill and a dust extractor attachment. No one is claiming they invented it, but equally, they can’t only release products no one has ever made before.

Innovative and game changing products are great, but Festool also needs to just fill in the gaps in its line up so it can compete with other brands. Having breadth in its cordless offering is important because a lot of potential customers don’t want 5 different battery platforms.

Yep. Fair point.

Available in Europe from May onwards.

Identical specs as the Flex model mentioned above.

Do not undesrstand the SYS3 L ...

Better than my DR 20 which came in a SYS MAXI II while I have it in a regular T-Loc I, with *all* acessories. basically that is 1/3 the outside volume and like 1/4 the usable volume. Just crazy.

Not that I'm in favor of the large Systainer, but I guess - knowing Festool - they will have a pretty neat inlay to store the dust extraction attachment, drill bits, chucks ... That's were I think Festool still excels at, looking at competitors "packaging"/boxes.

On my current bread & butter rotary hammer's box, the inlay is so bad ... But then again, overall, I will pass on this offering from Festool anyway - as I'm very happy - except for the box - with the fairly new unit I have.

Kind regards,
Oliver

L-sized Systainer is gold because it can store 450/465 (=nett length 400) long drill bits without going diagonal. I have considered moving my Bosch GBH 2-28 to an L-sized Systainer to do exactly that. But if I would put all the 450/465 long drills in there it becomes too heavy anyway. Especially 20,25,30mm add to the weight.

Yes, but it's too big and doesn't stack. You can slide a normal L-boxx on it and that's it. Would only have one as well.

I'm a bit curious about the picture with the wooden stepladder. It suggests the drill has a rafterhook, but I can't spot it on the flex drill, nor in the other pictures.
