I purchased the kapex 120 miter saw and have no issues with it but one.The dust collection is ok but I think there is room for improvement. I read somewhere on this form how to improve the dust collection but I can't find it in the search. Could someone direct me to that post I would appreciate the help  Thank you

Are you talking about using a 5-6ft length of 36mm hose or something else?

I really don't remember. But there were suggestions on how to improve the dust collection maybe that was one of them. Thank you for your reply.

I will take a photo when I get home after the weekend. You can upgrade the rubber dust shroud.

I added the short 36mm hose and it did improve the dust pick up.

Another trick I use is to let the vac run for a few seconds before beginning the cut. My non-scientific analysis is that the early run time sets up the airflow before having to suck up dust.

I vacuum behind the Kapex about once a week to remove escaped dust. Usually there is very little back there.

Run the Kapex without the vac hose attached to get an appreciation of how good the dust collection really is.

I did run the kapex without the vac after I posted my first message  and you are right it does make a big difference. Also going to install a 36 mm hose. Thanks everyone for the replies.

Hi, here’s some of the threads I found when searching similar:

The fastcap sawstach/strip brush given in J.J.'s second link is what I used to improve the rubber shroud. The use of an aux. fence and ZCI helps too.

I also use the auto switch (30 amp) that keeps the vac going for an extra 5 to 8 seconds after the saw is switched off.

I heard the the dual collection approach in the new Makita saw is good, but have not seen it in person.

Chuck, is the 2” stache the one for the Kapex?

Let me take a measurement tomorrow.

Thank you Chuck.

Mine is 4". I ordered an extra shroud and installed the stache to it. I use this modified shroud for regular stock, the standard shroud for thicker pieces.

Another tip in dust collection: if the rubber shroud gets in the way when you cut thicker stock, you can fold the shroud to have an extra inch of clearance or so.

The dust deputy set-up will greatly reduce the need to change or clean the filter/bag. It is one of the two after market upgrades that should be part of any small dust collection (the other one is the auto power switch).

Thank you very much Chuck, that’s very kind of you.
I will try and source a stache and buy a spare shroud. When using the Kapex in the workshop, I might hook it up to our big extractor, there is a point with a 65mm hose that I could put an adaptor on, and put it straight on the Kapex, the hose is quite short to, so may prove effective.

A stache will be welcomed when it’s couple to the CTM26 though  [thumbs up]
