Yes it's normal with the Kapex.

Gear housings packed with lub can bleed oil.  It will leak on the floor if folded in the UG cart or on a bench if left for a period of time.

Cheers, Sam

I figured it was either not a problem or a problem ;)

I figured it was just packed full to the gills. On the other hand no other miter saw i ever owned leaked oil...

Im not worried ill as the dealer and have some pictures documented in the form of a email...

If you search the forum, you'll find a few other reports of this happening, although fairly rare. There are instances where some oil can separate from the grease in the Kapex. I have talked to the service team about this topic extensively. It will not affect the operation or the longevity of the saw. Environmental conditions can sometimes cause this (temperature, humidity, orientation the saw is in).

If you feel uncomfortable, swap it for another saw. You have 30 days to return/exchange if it doesn't meet your expectations. Also, a 3-year warranty to back it up.

I googled it a few minutes ago and found those few other cases..

Ill sit with it for at least 21 days and see how it goes.

I read the threads that talked about storing the saw upside down. First thing that came to mind is it just came off a UPS truck and when i opened the box it was upside down...

Thanks for the hep. I cant wait to do something with all these new tools!

This is why I buy Festool.  You make a purchase, see something out of the norm, find out it is not an issue and can still exchange the purchase for another if you are not totally comfortable.  That my friends is customer service!!

Based on what I've read/heard, I would only be concerned if it were going to contaminate my workpiece.

I think your idea to wait 21 days is a good one. That'll give you enough time to see if it stops leaking or if it's gonna be a problem, and still have time to deal with it before your 30-day window closes.
