I am looking at buying a new Kapex, Amazon has the KS 120 for sale for over $300.00 less than the new model KS 120 REB. Does anyone know if the issues with the motor have been fixed in the  KS 120 REB, and why the KS 120 price is reduced?

Festool appears to have made changes to the motor.  Do they correct the issues that some users had with the previous?  Only time will tell.  Why the reduced price on the previous model?  Previous model and normal retailing strategy I guess.

I saw the same thing and I'm new to Festool and too want their miter saw. What ever the issue(s) are wouldn't they pop up while under the 3yr warranty and thus be covered? Is this a good opportunity to purchase and is there any history on the new ones yet to determine if the concerns are resolved?

It seemed like at least half of the people having the burnouts were running off of generators or other sources of dirty power after they got done ranting incoherently and it's doubtful that any of them ran out to buy the new one. It would be nice if Festool were more transparent about what was actually wrong and what they did about it.

While this may have been the case in the UK , where generator use for 110v is common on jobsites -  it was not the case for USA customers.

This was/is a real problem that festool tried to soft pedal for years.  I don't think the new motors have been out long enough to definitively draw a conclusion on whether the issue has been resolved.    And let's remember, festool's first response was to say there was no problem at all.

Carpenter- for 300$,  I'd not take the chance that you'll get the upgraded motor in the old model.

There's never been a problem with any Festool product. Peter Halle said so and he is totally qualified to do something somewhere. Wal-Mart greeter probably.

Note that there are some Festool dealers that have older KS 120 EB models with the newer motor design on board and are still offering a sizable discount (Hartville comes to mind, but there are others). This is kind of a best-of-both-worlds solution: you get the discount without taking a chance on getting the older motor. And it's a new tool, so it has the full warranty.

As an owner of the older Kapex (for 5 years now -- time flies!) in regular use (for furniture not carpentry applications), I agree with that, even though the new motors are still a little too young to be judged.  Others who jumped on the discounted deals reported that theirs were fitted with the new armature/parts.

My Kapex has not received any service -- touch wood. Others have asserted the current drawn has nothing to do with the notorious motor problem. To err on the right side, I have separate circuits for the Kapex and its associated shop vac.

I say buy it, but not from Amazon!
If you can find another Festool dealer that still has that model for $300 off - go for it!

There's a lot of speculation whether that version has the 'new' motor... my thought is that it doesn't really matter.
I know there are valid complaints of motor issues.  I also know that I've had my Kapex for 2 years now and I'm so glad I bought it.
It's definitely a treat to use and has expanded my capabilities immensely.
Make sure you don't use a long/crappy extension cord or a low powered outlet.  For peace of mind, run it directly plugged into it's own circuit.
I tried that for a while, but kept forgetting to turn on the CT... lol
Now, I just run my Kapex plugged into my CT26.

WoW - did you join last month just to stir up trouble ?  You should check your facts before opining in the company of knowledgeable people.  You don't have your motor failure story straight and Peter has not said there's nothing wrong festool products. He didn't say that here either.  Didn't even infer it.

Peter may be a lot of things, but a corp. stooge for festool - he is not.

That guy has posted some good comments, offset by this very ignorant one. He hasn’t logged in since then.

Further, if he (kanuka) comes back and deletes his post in this thread I’ll delete mine. Otherwise, I’ll be glad if he never comes back and I’d support his removal if he comes back with more posts like the above. We don’t need his toxic sarcasm and his good posts aren’t indispensable.

That Peter Halle is a decent and talented guy skilled in many things is indisputable to the folks that have been here a while.

I am sure many members have thoughts on the above comments. But lets not derail the topic too much.

Now back to talking about Kapex motor issues  [scared] ( never thought I'd say that  [huh] ).
