New Kapex REB with stand vs. EB on a Paulk total station

I am building out a mobile tool trailer mostly for renovation projects. I currently have a Bosch 12" glide miter saw but I'm thinking of taking advantage of the Kapex bundle offer. My two dislikes on the Bosch are weight and the dust. I can't decide if the Kapex stand is worthwhile as I have a Paulk total station that would suit the Kapex nicely. I've read (I believe from Hartville Hardware) that the EB model they are selling for ~$1100 has the new motor. Is that true? Obviously I'd rather avoid any motor issues.

Does anyone with a Total Station have feedback if it's worth the money to get the REB with stand for $2k vs the EB with new motor for $1100? I can see that having a rolling stand would make for quick deployment, but that takes a lot more space in the trailer, and makes the total station kind of redundant.

Like you are considering, I bought the "new" EB on sale last fall (from my local woodcraft) to replace my 12" Bosch glide. I am glad that I did. The Kapex is an impressive saw. Much better than the bosch in dust collection for sure, and on other features IMHO.  Yes, from what I could tell researching ekat, Kapex tool#s, and talking with Festool Service before I made my purchase, the newer EB tool number appears to have the same motor as the REB--as Hartville's add claims. I can't speak to portability options as mine is primary stationary.  The current deal on the REB with cart and wings does sound like a good deal for a mobile setup though. Good luck.

I'm in a similar position. Recently bought the discounted version, and mounted it in an old Ridgid MSUV (miter saw SUV), which was a good stand, but is about worn out. Decided to leave my 12" Bosch Glide permanently mounted in the shop. I'm wondering how the Fastcap setup compares to the UGG? It certainly looks heavier.

First of all, most users in Europe have not had any issues with the Kapex motors. We run 230V, and probably soon 400V on some lighter equipment. However, I’ve read a lot about concerns regarding the 110V motors in here. Knowing European manufacturers, if there was a problem with some series of these motors, and they now claim that the motors in saws that was in stock with FT USA is either new or exchanged, I would jump on it. The price you pay for the “old” EB model far exceeds the benefits of the REB model. In Europe the REB model is all about the new features (DC outlet, side extensions and the “new” (not improved?) bevel gauge garage.

I can hardly suspect Festool shipping stock they have control of, with motors that they know will fail... (And if you have a Toyota car - they may have changed your engine at a regular service, without you knowing...)

Hi I'm a professional trim carpenter and cabinet maker. Ido new Construction and remodels I would not trade my total station for any thing on the market

I made the original Total Station and while I like it a lot , it is NOT very portable
The ability to have a Miter saw stand , a table saw outfeed and a router table all in one is great.
If I have a quick ( one day ) trim job , I don’t usually bring it , but a multiple day job , for sure.

Don’t get me wrong ,
I really like the bench , but it’s heavy and awkward to move , no matter what has been said.
It’s set up in my garage fairly permanent .
