It's a mystery to me why having gone to so much trouble to get the jigsaw right, Festool hasn't seen the light with its other tools.
Because you often use a jigsaw following a line, while that is not the primary use of a router. For the most part, routers are "guided" in some way, whether that is a bearing on the bit, a guide bushing, the base following a straight edge, etc. With Festool routers (and their superior dust extraction) the bit is often shrouded so the light can't do much anyway. So, in reality, the only time you would
need to see the bit as it cuts, would be free-hand inlay. (like cutting the waste out of a hand drawn butterfly-key, then chiseling to the lines)
To me, it's a solution looking for a problem, that doesn't really exist. I'm actually surprised that they are producing the thing.

The newer hose attachment was part of why I pulled the trigger on an OF1010R this weekend on Recon, but the light module release was the tipping point. If FUSA decides that it's not worth containerizing a bunch of pallets of the light modules to distribute to their retailers, I'd almost rather just send the 1010R back and keep using my oval-ported 1010. Good grief.
The hose fitting is nice, I'm glad they did it, but the most notable improvement was moving the depth-stop turret. It's amazing. There is so much more room in there to change the bit. I generally leave the older one is a semi-permanent set-up and use the R more casually.
I still have my old one, the router hoarder won't give up anything, but I really do like the R more. If for some foolish reason, I had to give up one of them, it would be the older one.
