And then came the new LM-OF light module offering, I ordered that within minutes of the announcement. We'll see, I expect to receive a call from Woodcraft on June 3rd.  [big grin]

Just got the call this morning...the 1010 has arrived.  [big grin]

Great news man!! Way to go n congrats.
It’s a real smooth machine I love it!
If you haven’t already done so, I’d recommend getting
The super-edge guide(578054 Edge Guide Parallel Side SA-OF 1010/MFK).
that makes things even smoother!!
If yous got the time and feel like it, maybe post some pics once you’re plowin the plywood away!
Enjoy compadre!

As of lately I have been dumb founded by some of the choices of Festool USA. Not being able to get metric parts is annoying. Having the installers kit not available over here. Not being able to order systainer liners. I just bought the MFK 700 about two months ago at most. Of course I got the edge guide for it, only to see the better one get announced a couple of weeks ago. The nickel and diming is really getting to me.

Well not to be a jerk...but get used to it.  [smile]  [poke]  Festool has played this goofy game for years now, and I've done my fair share of spinning & twirling in-place over the last 15 years. It's sometimes a love-hate relationship.

The latest was the new 1010 which I really like but the old 1010 is still my favorite router. So I've held off purchasing because the new 1010 really didn't offer that much more than the older version...ya a few tweaks here and there but nothing substantial.

I get what your saying but hopefully someone sees that people are highly annoyed with this stuff. I recently bought the MFK 700 and the edge guide for it that I had to go hunting for. Only to have a month later the new edge guide be announced that was pictured in the OF 1010 manual when I bought that a year ago! I just hope they don't take a nose dive in quality.

I have been annoyed by the NAINA thing for years. I just don't understand? What is the point?
Non-compatible electronic stuff, sure. Router bits, attachments/accessories, even the twin-box holders, that seems like it should be everywhere, no restrictions.

Crazyracecarguy…I’m with you on this NAINA stuff just can’t wrap my head around a reason

I really don’t get why the light module is launched as a limited edt. for the OF 1010 R in the US..
No, I really don’t (I saw Sedge mentioned it in a vid.. I immediately thought he was misinformed  [blink])

In EU it’s now a part of the kit.. It’s a catch up in regards to any competitor that has light built in - and can you find a router today that’s not equipped with a LED of some sort, good or bad?

I think the CFO in FUSA should grab a cup of coffee and think this over..
Retrofit/buy for users that have bought the early R version like me is ok, and very good.
But a limited run on new kits???

Well [member=44099]Cheese[/member] .. tell us if you have seen the light, by the letter [big grin]

...FUSA has a very low opinion of its market's ability to discern model compatibility...

Judging from the english lang FB groups and influencer videos, I can't entirely say I blame them for forming that opinion.  It's their own fault for targeting the 'gotta have it because celebs have it crowd'/lifestyle vs tool users.  To be fair, I do think they make more fast money targeting what they have, so they are doing their job.

Festita...glad to see you again amongst the living & posting.  [big grin]

The LM-OF 1010 R is really pretty sweet. I haven't used it yet but just farting around with it, it is pretty nice. The LED's are at router bit level which just makes sense...duh. Festool as usual has done their due diligence on this enhancement.  [smile]

This is not a review...just a casual observation, but it's going in a positive direction.

Now that I’m convinced that a light is good, 4 wonder if this will fit on older models?
I have an OF 900 and two OF 1000’s. Don’t want to buy another.

Michael, I'll dig out my older 1010 and see if the LM-OF is adaptable to that...that should give you some info as I think the 1010 was really just a newer 900 & 1000, or am I off base?

From Sedge no.  just the facelift version with the round dust port.  I think he mentioned interference with the posts on the older models... You can check on the FUSA episode he had about the new kit.

So [member=297]Michael Kellough[/member] do you want the good news or the bad news first?  [smile]

Here's the LM-OF installed in the new REQ.

[attachimg=1]

Here's the LM-OF ALMOST installed in the old EQ.

[attachimg=2]

It's just this tiny amount of interference that prohibits the LM from seating fully. That's easy to fix.

[attachimg=3]

Even on the top side things look pretty good. This shows the REQ vs EQ.

[attachimg=5]

Until it comes to attaching the battery pack, then there is an issue.  [sad]

Hmm, can the battery pack go in first?

Unfortunately no.  [sad]

The battery module has a dovetail that mates with the LED module. The electrical connection is made with some small spade connectors that fit into spring clips. It would be possible to fabricate a small interface cable and mount the battery module elsewhere but that seems kind of kludgy considering the elegance of the Festool solution.

[attachimg=1]

[attachimg=2]

Festool actually relocated the bolt and plunge rod on the REQ to make room for the battery module. On the older EQ the distance from the bolt to the center of the foot is about 14 mm, while on the REQ the distance is about 21 mm.

[attachimg=4]

Here's a sample of how well lit the router bit is. The first setting is bright while the second setting is very bright.

Michael,Cheese
If I understand correctly the OF1010 EQ Base is identical to the 1000?
If so , the All4Tools Dude also makes a module for the old 1010…
He’s away till the 26th of the month, according to eBay ,but Michael maybe u can
drop im a line through eBay messaging and ask about it.

I think it’s even similar to the Festool one, in that it installs on the base( not overhead) but not sure.

Not long ago you could see all his products in his eBay listing …not sure exactly why it’s not available while he’s away ….

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] thanks for the clear explanation. It’s a shame they didn’t design the battery pack to fit the older router. Looks like there isn’t anything occupying the space beyond the contacts.

This is my conspiratorial side speaking, but if they made the light module fit both the 1010EQ and 1010REQ routers, they would:

a) give up sales of new REQ models

and

b) have to find a different reason/excuse not to import the light modules separately to the North American market, because the demand would be huge.

This is based on someone at Festool HQ actually asking to make them cross-compatible and being told "no, please don't do that."

Another possible reason is:

c) the design department wasn't requested to make it backwards compatible and didn't think above and beyond to try to do so.
