New locking dust fitting leaking ???

Anyone else experience leaking while using the new locking dust fitting into a female port ?

When using it with the 36mm curved hand tube #452901 I experience noticeable leaking around the fitting into the handle.  Seems like the air is channeling down the locking grooves into the handle.  Same thing on the stainless steel tube 452900 tool - just not as much leakage.

Anyone else notice the fitting leaking ?

Are you sure everything is engaged fully?

The problem I have with the fitting is the build-up of sanding/drywall dust in the recessed areas of the connection on a Pro 5 sander.

I'm not sure what the "locking dust fitting" is and can't locate it on Festool's site. However, I've never experienced any leakage in any connections using my CT with any Festool connectors or hoses. This sometimes occurs with vac fittings and nozzles from other companies, but not with Festool's.

[member=19734]grbmds[/member] , locking fitting is the new standard hose end that comes on all new vacuum hoses.  It is also the port on all new model sanders (pro5) with phase in occurring on other sanders and tools.

I think the fitting is also on TS saws with the locking/rotating port.

Sorry to climb on my hobby-horse,  but the new "Cleantec" connector is seriously flawed in design.  I have only one tool with the new fitting, my new RTS400 sander, and I have reported on the problems of dust getting trapped in the recesses, so that then require cleaning off separately in a way the old design never did.

It's a bad design, over-engineered to solve a problem that basically didn't exist - now, every time I use the sander, I reflect on what were they thinking and that puts the whole Festool proposition in a different light.

I certainly will not be "upgrading" any of my tools to retro fit the new connector and would like to do the reverse with the sander.

I tend to agree, the only Festool I had a problem with was the TS 55. The corrugations of the hose would hang up on the sharp edge of the guide rail.

On all the rest of the Festools I own, I've never had the hose fall off and once the vac hose is attached to a RS 2, OF 1010 or a DX 93, it's almost impossible to remove.

If I could change my PRO 5 back to the old school style, it'd be done in a heart beat.

This may be good feedback for [member=57769]TylerC[/member] to present to corporate. The track saws certainly needed help, the rest...not so much. I can envision a connector that works with the track saws exclusively to retain the vacuum hose, while the rest of the Festools just march along as intended.

Why punish 90% of the equipment while its only 10% of the tools that are to blame?

My personal opinion is that FT is just trying to increase sales to a new group of people at the expense of another - those already owning FT. 

Seems that painters , who are up on ladders a lot can benefit for the locking mech.  Good for them, not so good for the rest of us ???  Kinda like the switch over from metric to imperial.  Good (potentially) for all those that just couldn't fathom metric, but not good for the early adopters who were inconvenienced by metric in the first place, or inconvenienced now because much of their lineup is metric but they cant buy metric tools now. 

It's really Festool's lack of consistency that irks me.  I'm all for "improvement" , but when roughly half of the customer's don't like the enhancements - they aren't really improvements then; are they ?  More like pandering.

With me, the hose does tend to fall off all the time when the nozzle gets older and worn. It is because the rubber becomes too stretched out. I buy a new nozzle every 3 years and with a new one the problem does not occur. Until it ages again.

If the new locking nozzle is made out of the same rubber, it will probably stretch again over time and you have the same problem.

Seems like a solution to nothing.

Just to ram the point home, here are two earlier threads that pick up on the issues with the new Cleantec connector - sorry to say, but I am more irked every time I use it.  I would even pay money now for an old style spigot for the new RTS400 (although how ridiculous would that be?)
