Dear All

My first post and unfortunately it is with regards to some problems I'm having with a used Kapex 120 I have just bought. The bevel adjustment has a peculiar feel to it. There are two noticeable détentes about 1/5 of a degree past 0 and at 1 degree past 0 to the left and 1 degree to the right of 0 with a noticeable snap of the handle as if binding when first making an adjustment off centre. Secondly the laser lines do not appear at all although I can see the red light on the perspex lens above the blade. None of the holes for adjusting the laser have been punched. It was also missing the dust/chip collector at the back of the blade.

That being said the motor is good!

I purchased yesterday from a e-bay seller ( I can return it ) and to send it in for service or a quote will mean shipping from Sydney to Melbourne and the costs will soon start to add up. It is not looking like good value at the moment.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Best

Welcome to the forum.

You should check out the supplemental manual for the Kapex. Link

You can order the rubber shroud at a festool dealer, partnumber for the rubber part is 471316 and 471315 for the metal clip.

Are you using the green dial for the bevel selection? (You have to move the green dial from the 0-45 setting to the 45-45 setting if you want to bevel to the right)

First,  [welcome] to the FOG!  It has already been suggested that you download the supplemental manual.  That should help explain the bevel settings so that you can see if you have issue versus maybe not quite understanding how the settings work - and it should help with adjusting the lasers.

While working thru your issues if you need more guidance we have tons of people here who love to help other Festoolians.  [thumbs up]

Thanks Guys.

That supplementary PDF is great - a big thanks to whoever put it together.

Laser partially fixed as it was the lens that was covered in white powder and blocking it however it only shows one line (doubled up perhaps?)

I think I'll head to my Festool dealer and check out how a new one is supposed to feel when adjusting the bevel. I am ordering the trolley and extensions so I know he won't mind.

Bad news - took it to a Festool dealer and the bevel action is terrible compared to new. Anyway it is off to Festool Melbourne for a quote to repair. Very impressed with the service I received and the ease of getting repairs.

Sorry to hear that.  If you are interested in what controls the bevel take a look at this thread.  Rick has posted an image.  Kapex Bevel Image

I think I remember reading someone (perhaps Rick) posting here that the stops are not totally hard stops at the detents and if constantly over-ridden they can wear. and cause inaccuracies.

Bad luck on the KAPEX problem. Hope it comes back in good shape for you  [wink]

Sorry about the problems you have with the Kapex.
Remember,  "Buying something used is buying somebody else's problem"!

Guys

I've learnt my lesson - no more 2nd hand.

In for a penny , In for a pound (possibly more) but get on with the job.

Can't stand stress/confrontation unless it is really important - so get it fixed and enjoy the Festool experience.

Pleny of work so forget about it.

i love buying used tools. sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. the bigger the investment the less i'm concerned about saving a few hundred dollars, new is king.

Good news for me!

After great service from Northshore Abrasives (Festool dealer) in Brookvale my Kapex will be fixed for less than $200 (+$30 courier).

Bevel Gear to be replaced
Laser fixed and adjusted
Arbor safety clamp replaced
Lubrication where needed

Should arrive Friday - can't wait.

Thanks All
