My opinions. Regarding the two original chisels sent to you before any modifications. Top chisel with the handle that bulges out at the bottom, No. I don't like that handle for paring and fine cutting/chopping chisels. Its OK if you are chopping mortises and need something to keep your hand from going down the handle. The bulge in the wood provides something to support your pinky finger and bottom of your hand. But its bad for fine manipulation of a chisel. Bottom chisel they originally sent you looks good. Right proportion of socket, blade, handle. Top chisel with bulging handle has too long socket. Regarding your modified chisel with the shorter handle. No. Handle is way too short. I understand what you are saying about the balance. But the handle is too short. If I held that chisel, two of my fingers would be on the wood handle and two fingers would be on the socket. I want all or at least three of my fingers on the handle.
