New of1400 router doesn't increase rpm until 4 on the dial. Is that normal?

I just got the of1400 router along with the edge guide and the  stop with the micro adjust.  After I turned on the 1400, I noticed the power ranges from 1-4 were the same rpm.  Once the dial hits 4 it immediately starts increasing rpm.  Is this some sort of built in technology which adds horsepower once I enter the cut, or is it not working right? Can someone fire theirs up and see what happens? Thanks

I would give Festool Service a call -- they would be in the best position to answer your question.  There should be an increase in RPM through all the speed ranges.

Ok great, thanks.  Now I can make one cut before bed and dream about using it all day tomorrow.

Actually, that's normal.  Put the router under load and you'll see it works just fine.

Brice,

Is that just normal for the 1400?  On all of my other Festools I notice a change in speed when moving the dial...granted at lower speed it is not as easy to discern than at higher speeds.  Just curious if that is unique to the 1400.

Scot,

The OF 1400 is the only tool I have that acts in that manner.  I checked the OF 2200, MFK 700, saws, sanders, they all don't do that.  Don't have an OF 1010 to test.

Thanks, Ken...that is good info to know.  I wonder why?  The 1010 does not do it either...

Mine does the same thing...I asked years ago and was told it was normal (can't remember the technical reason why).
