21% VAT?  Is that what you guys pay on most goods?  Geez, i thought we had it bad in Canada paying as much as 15%. Depending which province you lived in.

You lucky buggers - we have a nice flat 24% VAT on everything here.  [crying]

Holly poop!  Those are pretty high sales tax rates.  What's your typically high marginal tax rates on your income tax returns.  In Canada, once you get to around $50K in income, we are taxed on income above that at around 42%.  We have a progressive tax system rate here.  The first 12K, no tax on income, and then it rises on each dollar above that at different income levels.  For example, someone with a fairly high income of let's say $100K, even though each additional of income reported at that level gets taxed at forty something percent, would typically pay about $25K in tax overall on their income.

For our VAT, which is called either the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) in some provinces or a combination of PST and GST (Provincial Sales Tax & Goods and Services Tax), people who are low income earners actually get a credit they are eligible for on their income tax return to offset the burden of having paid our Sales Tax/VAT with such low incomes.  This ranges from a credit of $300 or lower annually which is erroded typically on incomes rising from 0 to around $30K in annual income.  Yes, that's right, somebody who has no income can file a tax return just to get this credit paid to them, which has always seemed queer to me as if you have no income, why the heck does someone need to be reimbursed on a tax that they had no money to buy things with to offset the burden of.

Well, we are quite OT and at the edge of politics. But answering your question with pure facts and no personal view of the facts shouldn't risk the thread being locked due to politics, should it?
As of 2012 the margin tax in Sweden was about 57% (+- 2% depending of where you live). This was the second highest margin tax in the world apart from Aruba, according to a report I read. I'm not sure of which income triggers this tax level, though.

And we are pretty much in the same boat with regards to progressive personal taxation in Finland as Michael is in Sweden.

I think you hit a cap of about 58-60% income tax over 100k€'ish annual income. This figure includes the compulsory pension and healthcare payments as well as county taxes in addition to the state taxes.

If you compare these figures in NA you really should add your medical plan & pendion fund fees to some extent to your taxes to be on level ground.

True in the USA but not in Canada.

Thanks for the welcome! I was so excited about the clamps that fully forgot about my first post.

I drank the Festool cool aid a few weeks ago and got crazy about it.
Made large investment for my weekend warrior place and now I am using my "old" tools from Bosch and grin because don't want spoil my Festool ones.

Yes, there are people who keep their Mercedes in the garage and clean it every Saturday! ROI useless to talk about it, this is like the purses and shoes from my wife. I learned from her how to argue in favor.

I learned a lot from this forum and it is on my daily list.

Just spoke to Axminster and they are sure they can source these sets for about £250 inc delivery etc

Great.
Did Axminster say when they'll have them in stock? Do you know if they sell the separate parts as well?

Just had my wife pick up a set.  This product is just beautifully executed - it looks gorgeous in real life.

I could have done without the Forstner bit, as I don't really need it - I've pretty much bought all that stuff for "regular" workbench dog holes.    I certainly won't reach for it as often as the rest of the kit.

Rob, what's the hollow under the planing stops for ?  Wonder if my Qwas dogs will fit.

It's available on the site now, just ordered one. [embarassed]
I can't wait to get it, looks like it will be very useful!

Hey Terry,

Methinks, they're a side effect of the 3/4" version where the dog holes won't be predictable like the MFT, so the dogs slide to fit the bench.

If I were starting from scratch, I'd buy the kit.  But I have 12 20mm dogs, 4 quick clamps and 4 clamping elements, so I just can't justify it.  The 20mm forstner is the only thing I see in my future.

52% above €56K
42% above €19.6K

Below that 37%

But... you get a piece of that back and when you get that income from labour (as opposed to say, welfare) you get another piece back.

But yeah, the comparison isn't that easy. So do we have an extensive set of rent subsidies, health insurance subsidies, etc. etc.

Use the Festools !!!!

They won't break.
They don't even change what they look like over the years if you're using them in a weekend warrior place.

And they are much more fun to use than to look at.

Looks like a really nice setup. So nice in fact that I just ordered one. For US customers in Texas the cost is about $263 dollars with the shipping. That seemed reasonable to me due to the compliment of the items in the kit. Will update when mine arrives!

Man I sure hope they don't run out of these !!! [eek]  BTW  Rob how long is the "Introductory offer" good for ?  I need to plan my purchase . [big grin]

I found a hint that the offer ends on May 5th on the Lee Valley web site.  But, I did not find a definite date.  I say hint, because the individual components of the package will become available on May 6th.

Hey as long as they take care of you when you can longer be productive thats all that matters. In America, they tax the heck out of you when your young enough to work and contribute then give nothing back when your old. No Pension, crappy healthcare.
