new swing to replace the old one (and my first attempt to upload pics.)

   My customer's father built this swing in the 30's, it needs a little help.  This is my first attempt at mortise and tennon joinery, I was holding out for a domino, but that ship has not come in yet.  I needed to learn the technique to go to the next level in our craft anyhow.  All in all it wasn't that bad.  Chris

Looks really nice. What type of wood? Back and side panels laminated? You decided not to go for through tenons?

  Thanks guys.  I used straight grain douglas fur for this project.  I bought my material from a local door shop.  They use the species for exterior doors and door jamb and swear by it.  Any thoughts on a good exterior finish?  The house is seasonal so whatever I do needs to be low maintenance.  I'm trying not to paint if I can but you know howcustomers can be.  Chris

Well if it's on a covered porch maybe a Watco danish oil? Are you going dark or a light/clear finish?

    The original swing is black.  I really like grain structure of the fur so if I have it my way I'll keep it light.  How will mineral oil hold up?  Chris
