Got it off craigslist, it was in rough shape, a bath of evaporust, some wire brush time, and paint later, and it's ready to be mounted.

Also got a bench grinder, that one still needs some work, but it's ALL cast iron, not a piece of sheet metal on that thing.....

Congratulations... you can't do any better than a Wilton. Especially their upper tier offerings that are rated at 60K psi strength. Most welding and metal fab shops use this vise as standard fare...it is the standard of the metal working industry. They are expensive, but I prefer to purchase mine used which can be inexpensive if you find them at an establishment that is under water.

Looks like one of their Mechanic/Tradesman vises. Not as big a throat travel as the Machinist Vises, but wider jaws usually . Very nice score.... [tongue]
Not that you are looking, but another great vise manuf. is Yost.  Usually Blue in color from what I've seen. Not sure if they are still in business after the recession .

Lucky man, hard to find a used Wilton in decent condition in my part of the country. Can't beat them for quality

Forgot completely about them...they made vises for Starrett for years & years.

I have a Starrett 015 downstairs in the shop which is the same as a Yost 205, 5" machinist vise that I picked up on eBay as NOS for $65.  [eek]  And I have a Wilton 4 1/2" machinist vise in the garage that I picked up for $80 about 30 years ago. Both are real nice vises. You can't go wrong with either one.

One that seems to be a sleeper, is the Columbian line of vises, that are now part of the Wilton line, and is owned by Jet. They always seemed to be a very robustly built vise and they were usually $100-$200 under the other two.

Bottom line...Yost, Wilton & Columbian are all still made in the USA.  [cool] [cool]

There's a guy on Facebook called Viceman that restores vintage vices. Some of them are works of art.
